15 years ago we revamped the way we metered electricity. We took our mechanical meters and added electronic modules to them so they could read the electricity used and send the readings to our office. We were one of the first cooperatives in the state to use power line carrier technology to send the readings in on our high voltage wires. The reason we had modules installed in the meters back then was purely economics.

They were cheaper than buying new digital meters and we had 15,000 meters to upgrade.For the next 5 years, we used these meters but found that they were more susceptible to light-ning strikes than the factory built digital meters. Because of the failures from lightning storms and difficulty in supply, we made the decision to only install digital meters from then on. That was ten years ago.

Only Six thousand meters to go!

We now only have six thousand meters to go! When we first retrofitted the mechanical meters we wanted AMR (automatic meter reading) to read the meters usage and send it in once a month. The digital meters now have AMI (au-tomatic meter Information). That is the ability to get information about the voltage at the meter. This information is priceless when you are expe-riencing outages. We can now pinpoint where a problem is on a circuit by simply checking to see if the meters have electric voltage.

New Warehouse Progressing

New 6000 Sq. Ft. covered awning will allow 3 trucks and trailers to load up at once out of the weather.

The new warehouse will have 13,000 sq. ft. of inside space.

Geothermal Gets Federal Tax Credit ReinstatedA Great Renewable Resource to Save Energy

As part of the tax bill passed on Friday, February 9, 2018, Congress reinstated the fed-eral geothermal tax credits for residential and commercial use. The residential credit applies to residential systems installed from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2021.

Geothermal systems installed in the years 2017, 2018 or 2019 will receive a 30% federal geothermal tax credit. The year 2020 will be reduced to a 26% credit and the year 2021 will be reduced to a 22% federal geothermal tax credit. Talk to your tax professional for more details.

As part of Cimarron Electric’s safety program, we have all insu-lated rubber gloves and rubber goods inspected and tested on a very rigid schedule. All linemen are very watchful and protective of their insulated gear. They keep them safe and up to date. They don’t share their gloves or sleeves.

Improvements For You (from page 1)CEO Mark Snowden has budgeted to replace the existing non-digital meters and our Board of Directors approved his budget request. These digital meters will be replaced as our meter department travels our system adding meters to new loads. Snowden said, “These meters help us provide a quicker response time in outages and are safer for us in reducing driving time looking for trouble spots.”

Another Improvement for youis the Viper vacuum controlled circuit recloser. These reclosers have an amazing history of durability and also a much higher degree of safety for our linemen.

This set of vacuum reclosers is used for hands on training on safety day. It will soon be going

out and hung on a pole in our system.

Actually operating the recloser module in the warehouse lets everyone learn more.

The Viper vacuum reclosers are upgrad-able pieces of equipment that can be re-programmed or adjusted to handle new or growing loads. It allows us the ability to see information on site as opposed to having to call and get a report from the substation. Our dispatch center can communicate with it to see what the linemen sees.

Providing more information allows us to use our people and equipment more efficiently. These Vipers are safer than the old oil circuit technol-ogy. Linemen can work and reset them from the ground controls.

This equipment improvement will result in short-er or no outage times, pin pointing problems faster. That’s better service to you, our mem-bers. That’s another improvement Cimarron Electric is proud to do for you, our members.
