so far, this is working well with minimal glitches.

On Tuesday night we held our Information night for families with children

starting in 2020. We were very happy with how the night went and it was

great to see so many parents in attendance. Thank you to the parents who

came in early to spring clean the F-2 gallery. I would also like to thank Mrs

Williams and Mr Walz for their excellent presentation.

Over the weekend the school is conducting a working bee in preparation

for Education Week. Thank you to all the parents who have given up time

or money to ensure our buildings and grounds sparkle!

During this time we have visits from the Kinder children planned and

school tours for prospective parents. On Tuesday night we are hosting an

Education Week Expo starting at 6:30 in the hall. The night will begin with

each house singing a song about ‘careers’. Following this you will be able

to visit many of the classrooms to experience what is on offer. I hope you

can join us for a night of shared learning and fun!

The week culminates with the ‘Walk to School’ and breakfast event.

Everyone is encouraged to meet at designated places and walk to school.

A delicious breakfast is available for everyone. Thanks to Danny and Tom

for their work in organising this event.

Over the past weeks, a number of students have painted a tree for our

symbol for our collective character strengths. Stickers will start going up in

the following days.

Finally, I would like to congratulate all the students who participated in the

Foundation 1/2’s :

The Foundation, One and Two students had a fantastic time at the

Lighthouse Theatre last Friday for the performance of The Gruffalo. We

have had some good discussions comparing the stage production to the

story and a short animation. In Reading we are focusing on the

comprehension strategy of inferring to work out what is really happening in

a text. In Maths we have been continuing our work on place value and

beginning to look at addition. In Writing we have been working on improv-

ing our paragraphs and rereading our work.

Grade 3/4’s :

A huge congratulations to all Year 3 students for their effort and

perseverance throughout their very first NAPLAN week, we were pleased

with how the week went. In Numeracy we are finishing our exploration of

time, we hope that students have been paying careful attention to your

clocks around the house. In Writing we are finishing our Narratives, students

have written very entertaining pieces. In Reading we are learning to find

the comparisons and contrasts in a text.

Grade 5/6’s :

The year 5/6 students have made a great start with some of their

assessments, in particular, the year 5s with NAPLAN. The year 5s still have

Language Conventions and Numeracy to go. With NAPLAN out of the way

early next week, the year 5/6s will begin looking at the complexity of writing

creative comic strips. This is not as easy as it seems! In reading they are

looking at the strategy of Cause and Effect, as well as “Thinking Aloud.”

In Numeracy the 5/6s are adding and subtracting fractions.

A few important dates coming up for sport related teams :

27/05/19 – Division Cross Country Championships Warrnambool. Those stu-

dents that qualified were listed in last weeks newsletter, if you are not sure,

please come and see me.

07/06/2019 – District Winter Sports (Yrs 5/6). Football and Netball at Victoria

Park Koroit. Any parents or friends who would be interested in assisting with

any of the teams, please let me know ASAP. We usually have one football

and two netball teams participating. It would be great if the teams could

get in a few practices before the day with their coaches/assistants.

Also attached to this newsletter is a flyer from Cycling Victoria for their

annual Schools competition. We always have entrants that do very well in

these cycling events each year, so if you are interested please look and/or

register on the website. If you haven’t been in a cycling race before but

would like to have a go, please see either myself or Mrs. McLaren as we

may be able to assist with the loan of a suitable road bike. There are

novice events for newcomers so it’s a great way to have a try at something

new!

A quick reminder, if you have a sport top of any sort at home could you

please return it ASAP. I will need to start organising uniforms for Hoop Time

(Term 3) and I need all the tops we have for our teams.

We acknowledge that we are in a time of transition as we have integrated

XUNO as part of our home to school communication processes. As outlined

previously, the purpose of introducing XUNO is to provide a more effective

mode of communication between home and school when it comes to formal

notifications for reminders, permissions, newsletters/ calendar updates,

payments and absence.

We thank you all for being open to learning and coming on board with this process. As

with anything new, it takes time to learn a process and become comfortable with using it.

We encourage parents to come and see us if you are still having trouble with this and we

will work through this with you. Thankyou to all parents who have taken the time to pop

into the office and seek support – we have got many of you sorted very quickly.

We know that many of you are frustrated with the App not providing the log in function

‘yet’. We ask you to be patient with this, the function is coming in the very near future. In

the meantime, you will need to continue to log into your XUNO portal

https://pfc.xuno.com.au and use your log in and password details to access documents and permissions.

As XUNO sends the newsletter out to parent email address, to avoid duplication we will no longer be emailing the newsletter.

We would also ask the parents who have not yet done so, to please now delete the Skoolbag app as we are no longer using this program.

The Year 3/4 Camp Consent Form will soon be available on XUNO.

We are currently working on installing a payment online option within XUNO and when this is done, the camp consents will be issued.

Please remember payment for any of our camps can be done by instalments, please speak with Jenni or Leah.

Walk To School & Big Breakfast

Friday 24th May

On Friday 24th May, we are encouraging all students to join each other on a walk to school. The walk will be led by the teachers, leaving from several designated starting points around town.

Students may meet the teacher at the designated point, or join in along one of the routes. Bus travellers will also be involved, with buses dropping students at the front of St. Pat’s, to be

met by a teacher to walk from there.

To coincide with Walk to School Day, breakfast will be provided for students in the hall. This begins at 8am and consists of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast, egg & bacon rolls and hot chocolate. This is open to all students, whether they have joined the walk or not.

Dietary requirements will be catered for. Parents and siblings are welcome to enjoy the breakfast for a gold coin donation.

There will also be a coffee van at school from 8am. It is requested that all students bring their own mug, bowl & spoon for the breakfast.

The school would like to thank the Moyne Shire for providing funding for students to enjoy this

breakfast. If you have any queries or concerns please see your class teacher or the office.

Please see the attached map for details of the starting points, times & routes.

Transport, please do so as soon as possible.

TWILIGHT MARKET SUNDAY 9th JUNE

Advance notice - If/when you are cleaning out your cupboards, we would love to receive donations of old plastic/melamine bowls and plates. These will be offered for children to

use at the twilight market. Any donations can be dropped off to the school office.

FRESH FRUIT FRIDAY

If we could please ask for two helpers each Friday morning, just for an

hour from 9am to prepare this fruit and distribute it to the class-

rooms, that would be great!

If you are interested in helping out with Fresh Fruit Friday there is a Term 2 roster being

made so that we have plenty of help ready to go for the new term! Let Leah know at the

office if you are available. Thanks

Meals on Wheels

A reminder that Port Fairy Consolidated School is again on the roster for Meals on Wheels. Our turn takes place during the week of 24th – 28th June (last week of term). We currently have 5 volunteers on the roster which is located in the office.

We have been doing Meals on Wheels for many years. It is an opportunity for families to volunteer an hour of your time to assist the school and the hospital. The hospital rely on its community members to deliver the meals as they do not have the staff to do this on a day to day basis. The volunteers are required to collect meals from the hospital with the assistance of our year 5 students. Once the meals are collected, the drivers/volunteers will proceed around Port Fairy and deliver the meals to some of our senior citizens within our community. This service provides our senior citizens with meals who may have become house bound, who may need assistance with their meals or for some oth-er reason. The senior citizens we deliver to, enjoy it immensely when the school children come to visit them, sometimes this maybe the only interaction they have with other people. Please con-sider putting your name down to assist in this worthwhile program for the school, the hospital and our local community.

All volunteers are required to have the appropriate and current documentation :

Driver’s Licence, Car Insurance & Working With Children Check Copies of all above mentioned documents are required by the school as a legal requirement.
