Prep/1 SLEEPOVER & 2/3 CAMP Next week is the Prep/1 sleep over at school and then our grade 2/3 students head to Port Fairy on December 7th and 8th. The sleepover and camps are an important part of our extra curricula programs here at school and as a result students learn many life skills. The activities students take part in challenge them and build their resilience, teach them independence while having a lot of fun with their classmates in a supportive environment. A lot of planning and work goes into organising camps by staff and many extra hours are volunteered, away from their own families outside school hours during the overnight stays. If you get a chance, please say thank you to our staff. A reminder payment for all school camps must be paid before students go on camp please.
ORIENTATION DAY Tuesday, December 12th all students will be spending the morning with their respective teachers for 2018 as part of our Orientation Day program. Our current year 6 students will be attending their local secondary schools and our new Foundation students will be here also. Please note that there is a 2018 Foundation (Prep) Parent Information session at 1.00pm. In line with the Department of Education language and the Victoria curriculum, Prep is now referred to as Foundation.
STAFFING IN 2018 As people may be aware, Mrs Cumming is having a baby early next year and will be taking maternity leave starting on February 16th. We are in the process of advertising a position for a new classroom teacher for 12 months while Mrs C is away. Mrs C will do the specialist role the first 3 weeks of term 1 next year, with the specialist position then filled after that in 2018. Mr Miller is taking leave without pay for another 12 months next year to help and support at home with Charlotte’s recovery. Mr Miller is hoping to do some part time work in Warrnambool. As always classes for next year with be announced on Orientation Day and we are hoping the successful applicant for the classroom position will be available that day to come and meet the students.
END OF YEAR Tuesday, December 19th is our final day of classes for students. Students will be doing final rehearsals for our concert on this day. Thanks to the PFA there is a BBQ lunch and visit from Santa at 1.00pm, families and siblings are welcome to come along. School finishes at 3.30pm. We then have our Concert and Awards night at 7.00pm. This is a great night for the whole family to join in and celebrate the year. BYO deck chair.

PANCAKE SHIFTS 2018 Planning by our PFA for the January markets and future pancake shifts is underway for 2018. The pancake shifts are a fun way all parents can get involved and help out the school, meet parents and other families. As the saying goes many hands make light work. Please contact Suzi if you can help out with shifts in 2018.
INDIVIDUAL STUDENT ASSESSMENTS TERM 1 2018 Like last year, individual student assessments will be conducted at the beginning of the 2018 school year. This happens now in all local schools. These assessments help teachers plan and tailor learning programs for individual students.
♣ Monday, January 29th first day back for all staff – student free day
♣ Tuesday, January 30th and Wednesday, January 31st are student assessment days. Students do not attend school as normal on these 2 days. All students will be allotted a 30 minute assessment time. This will be sent home before the end of the year. Parents will need to bring their child/ren along to their allotted assessment sessions please.
♣ All students will start normal school days on Thursday, February 1st 2018
NEW FAMILIES ALWAYS WELCOME We welcome new families anytime to our school. If you know of new families to the area or families wanting to attend our school please encourage them to visit and discuss enrolment. We often have student’s enrol between now and the beginning of next year. Word of mouth is the best way of encouraging new families to our school. So please help spread the word about our wonderful school.

We were so pleased to have some amazing helpers for Mrs C’s Grade 3/4 this morning. Many thanks to Paul, Chris, Andrew, Josh and Helen who kindly gave their time to share kitchen garden with their child/grandchild/sibling. We really appreciate people coming in and giving a hand in guiding the kids through their recipes and gardening tasks. The smiles on the kids faces also show they really enjoy having you there too. Yesterday the grade prepared pasta dough and today rolled it out into a herb fettuccini which was served with a garlic butter and orange & fennel salad. The kids absolutely love making and eating pasta and this was a big hit with many requesting seconds. This was followed by festive shortbreads served with balsamic strawberries and ice-cream, a very special treat. The balsamic strawberries definitely challenged their taste perceptions and a lot pleasantly found they really enjoyed them.Instead of gardening today due to the heat, everyone started work on designing a laser cut metal artwork for the shed wall. Some great ideas and designs were shared!
PANCAKES Pancake roster ready to fill - please have a look at the roster on the next page - many hands make light work - contact Melissa or
