IMPORTANT DATES - Park Ridge High School

PRINCIPAL’S DESK Year 6 Camp This week our Year 6 students headed off on Monday to Canberra. Our camping program provides a great opportunity for students to develop their resiliency skills and see first hand information that cannot be presented by teachers at school in the classroom. As I would expect, the feedback from the teachers who are on camp have indicated that our students have been perfectly behaved and we have been receiving many positive comments from the general public about the way our students conduct themselves while out in public. I am sure that our students will have many great stories to tell when they return on Friday. Please Shut the Gate Could parents who enter/depart the school from the gate near the music room on Wentworth Avenue please shut the gate if they enter/depart after 8:45 a.m. Signs will be erected soon to remind parents. Our new fence looks great and we have had heaps of positive feedback from parents. Building Audit The Department will be conducting a Building Auditduring the school holidays. This will take place on Wednesday/Thursday 1-2 April. There will be a number of contractors on site and they will be using drones to assess the quality of the roofs. These audits take place every five years and will provide the Department with the necessary information to funding building works at our school over the next five years. Head Lice Checking Yes, they are about. Could parents please be pro-active with the checking for head lice in your childrens hair. To help combat the spread of head lice at the school we have been encouraging parents to check their childs head regularly. However, this strategy can only be successful if ALL parents do it. Also, we need to encourage students not to occupy each others space and make head contact. Transfer of head lice can only occur with head to head contact. Another useful tip is for students with long hair to make sure that their hair is tied back. Remember, head lice do not discriminate. PERFORMING ARTS NEWS

Hello There! Welcome to the first edition of Park Ridge Music News. For those of you who aren’t aware, my name is Graeme Stewart and I’m the new ‘Music & Performing Arts’ teacher at Park Ridge. After twenty years of teaching at Knox Gardens Primary School, sixteen of those as the Music & Performing Arts teacher and the last four as a Year Five Classroom teacher, I am extremely excited about being back in a full-time Music Teaching position. I would like to thank the staff, students and parent community of Park Ridge for making me feel so welcome in my new role. It’s been a busy first few weeks of the term, settling in, setting up the Music Room and getting to know everyone. The students in Foundation to Year Two have been singing, experimenting with various instruments and are current-ly learning and revising the hugely important concepts of Beat and Rhythm. Our Year Three and Four students have begun working their way through the ‘Black Belt Recorder Book 1’ and are encouraged to try to find some time at home to practise playing their recorders (hopefully at an appropriate time and volume). They have also been singing various middle primary songs, as well as revising several important elements of Music including Beat, Rhythm and Pitch. The Year Five and Six students have enjoyed experimenting with various tuned percussion instruments, a bit of singing and are just about to begin learning the guitar. Now we have our new Smart TV set up in the Music Room, all Year Levels will be using various interactive music games and programs to reinforce their learning. Our Senior Choir have had their first few rehearsals and have recorded a ‘revamped’ version of the Park Ridge School Song. They are looking forward to presenting it at one of our next school assemblies, so stay tuned. There’s lots planned for Music at Park Ridge this year and I’ll try and keep you all updated with an occasional ‘Park Ridge Music News’ in the newsletter once or twice a term. Please feel free to drop past the Music Room to say hello or make a time if you wish to discuss your child’s progress in Music & Performing Arts throughout the year.
