8th May 2018
Highlights from Term 1
The Foundation students had a very busy end to Term 1. Our excursion to
Legoland was fabulous and the children enjoyed creating and building with Lego. Our Learning Celebration afternoon gave the Foundation students the
opportunity to showcase their learning. The children were surprised by just
how much they had already learnt! It was with great excitement that we
ended Term 1 with Easter activities and an Easter egg hunt.
CAFE Reading
You may have heard the Foundation students talking about CAFE reading.
We use CAFÉ to introduce and reinforce the reading strategies: C — Comprehension. I listen to and understand stories that are read to me.
A — Accuracy. I hear, work and play with spoken language.
F — Fluency. I know letters, sounds and words.
E — Expand Vocabulary. I am aware of print and know how to handle a book.
The students work on individual goals based on these strategies.
In our Reading sessions the students have been concentrating on:
* where to begin reading; * full stops, exclamation marks and question marks;
* the beginning, middle and end of stories.
Botanic Gardens Excursion
The Foundation students had a wonderful day at the Botanic Gardens. We were so lucky with the weather and enjoyed sunshine for the most of the day. The only rain was when we were getting into the bus at the end of the day! The students potted daffodil bulbs, saw and heard the story of the “Lightning Tree”, took a rainforest walk, visited the herb garden, made potpourri and had a wonderful time exploring the Children’s Garden. On our return we asked the students what their favourite part of the day was and the answer was……. “EVERYTHING!”

before the bell goes at 9:00am. Students who arrive after the
bell need to get a late pass from the office.
Nude Food: We are a nude food school. You can help us to
keep our school clean by packing lunch and play lunch without
wrappers. We are looking forward to a very busy and exciting Term 2.
Kind regards,
Jan and Des.
