The summer school, which according to The Examiner, is now in its twelfth year, had achieved its largest attendance record of participants. This year’s summer school attracted participants from all over the state, and even attracted people from Victoria to come to Launceston and participate. The summer school provided opportunities for participants to work in sections with professional tutors and musicians, as well as work in a band setting under the guidance of retired Defence band conductor Major Peter Grant OAM. The brass band day also made a return to the program, with a strong showing of participants from the state’s north and north-west participating in the event. There has also been a lot of positive press of the summer school in the local media, with a feature article in The Examiner (20/1/2018). HCB Life Membership for Reade Simon Reade has been awarded life membership at Hobart City Band for his many years of service. Awarded in his 20 th year as bandmaster of the band, Simon has grown the organisation from a single band organisation, to a successful multi- band organisation, with the multi national A- grade winning Hobart Wind Symphony as its centrepiece. Congratulations Simon, a truly deserving recipient of life membership. Important Dates Feb 18: TBL AGM & Quarterly Meeting Mar 3: Deadline for National contest registration and permits Mar 30-Apr 2: Australian National Band Championships – Kew, Victoria
