UNNJ – A Sting Operation By the US Govt
• The expansion and proliferation of hospitality, culinary arts, tourism, and events in Asia is causing increasing marketplace confusion for both students and industry
• Students/parents increasingly want assurance that they going to be getting a quality education experience
• The industry wants to know that they are going to get quality graduates
• Also, students/parents want not only domestic recognition of their course/institution but now also see the importance of international recognition
12
Simply put
“XXXX YYYYY is absolutely a "false promise" and the brochure is totally fake and full of "lies". As a victim of such a fake propaganda, I can assure you that it's the worst hotel school in the world ….! If you want to learn more about that hellish school ……. send me an e-mail and you'll be duly informed”.
“This institution or should I call it rip-off scheme is an absolute master at window dressing their school and charging X,XXX for a first years tuition and then not being able to deliver on their promises. They make their students train at various hotels, close to home, and 'supposedly' are being placed with managers etc to receive the best training but are then just being used as cheap labour at the various hotels and no proper training is given”.

• Domestic Quality Assurance (regulations) and International QA (accreditation) has become increasingly important.
• Increasingly ‘Business Schools’ have been seeking accreditation from the main bodies:
- AACSB (North America)
- EQUIS (Europe)
- AMBA (UK)
Importance of Accreditation
Double Accreditation
Increasingly Business Schools are seeking more than just one accreditation
15
Accreditation is clearly playing an increasingly important role not only in terms of internal QA but also the marketing of global business education
Triple Accreditation
• There are some 18,000+ universities in the world • Never before have so many people studied in higher education• There are some 4-5million students studying outside of their
home country - in Australia 1:50 people is now an int’l student• More students are directly paying for their education before so
parents/students what to know what they are paying for• Govts are also more ‘demanding’ in knowing where their $
investment in education is going, and what the returns are• Increasing concern about the ‘quality’ of education• Increase in role of national domestic QA agencies – but these all
vary in scale, scope and focus • Since 2007 International ‘Rankings’ (QS, THE) have become a
‘proxy’ global measure of ‘quality’ but is that what they are really designed to do?
