IMPORTANCE OF HOTELS AND TOURISM IN INDIA

INTRODUCTION- Tourism is an activity done by an
individual or a group of individuals, which leads to a motion from a place to another, with a purpose of entertaining which leads to an awareness of other civilizations and cultures,
Tourism is mainly carried out for recreational and leisure purposes.
Hotels are important globally as providing the facilities for recreation and entertainment, meeting and conferences and business transmission.
Hospitality is the provision of the accommodations, venues, meals and drinks to those people who are out of their homes.
The two main industries that comprise the activities we call tourism are the hospitality and travel industries.
POINTS TO CONSIDER: Tourism in India is a key growth driver and
a significant source of foreign exchange earnings.
The tourism sector in India is flourishing due to an increase in foreign tourist arrivals (FTA) and a larger number of Indians travelling to domestic destinations.
The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2007 ranked tourism in India sixth in terms of price competitiveness and 39th in terms of safety and security.
The Indian hospitality sector has been growing at a cumulative annual growth rate of 14 per cent every year.
Hotels contribute the output of goods and related services which build well-being of their nations and communities.
When foreign visitors avail the facilities of these hotels the foreign currency is earned through the visitor’s payments.
Thousands of jobs are provided to locals as well as foreigners by these hotels in its different occupations.eg-Restraunts, hotel owned shops etc.
“Athithi devo bhavha" has been one of the central tenets of Indian culture since times immemorial....

too. Promotes globalization. Environment protection and
conservation. Creates a favorable image. Enhancing cultural heritage. Helps in diversification of economy.
GENERATING INCOME AND EMPLOYMENT-
Tourism in India has emerged as an instrument of income and employment generation, poverty alleviation and sustainable human development.
Almost 20 million people are now working in the India's tourism industry.
SOURCE OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE EARNING
Tourism is an important source of foreign exchange earnings in India.
This has favorable impact on the balance of payment of the country.
The tourism industry in India generated about US$100 billion in 2008 and that is expected to increase to US$275.5 billion by 2018 at a 9.4% annual growth rate.
DEVELOPING INFRASTRUCTURE:
Tourism tends to encourage the development of multiple-use infrastructure that benefits the host community, including various means of transports, health care facilities, and sports centers, in addition to the hotels and high-end restaurants that cater to foreign visitors.
The development of infrastructure has in turn induced the development of other directly productive activities.
PRESERVATION OF NATIONAL HERITAGE AND ENVIRONMENT
Tourism helps preserve several places which are of historical importance by declaring them as heritage sites.
Likewise, tourism also helps in conserving the natural habitats of many endangered species.
PROMOTING PEACE AND
STABILITY: tourism industry can also help promote
peace and stability in developing country like- India by providing jobs,-generating income diversifying the economy,-protecting the environment,-promoting cross-cultural awareness.
CONCLUSION- Tourism is a major driver of economic
growth globally. India's tourism industry is experiencing
