MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA)
MITRANSFER PATHWAYS COURSES (COMMON COURSES)
REMAINING DEGREE REQUIREMENTS (RECOMMENDED/ INSTITUTION-SPECIFIC)
DEFINING ASSOCIATE TO BACHELOR’S DEGREE TRANSFER PATHWAYS
BACHELOR’S DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
ASSOCIATE DEGREE
BACHELOR’S DEGREE
• Required, recommended, optional, and appropriate courses should meet degree requirements.
• Courses in the first- and second- year should typically be completed in the first 60 hours, or first half, of the program.
• Some students will enroll part-time and take longer to complete the courses and associate degree.
• Assume that the student has selected a major.
• These pathways focus on students who intend to earn an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree.
Re-Visiting Underlying MiTransfer Pathways Assumptions
MiTransfer Pathways Institutional Scale of Adoption
• In these first four pathways, each community college has
67 "new" transfer partners.
• In these first four pathways, each university has 112 “new” community college partners.
• Across the four pathways, 8,000+ direct equivalencies are ensured.

Understanding the MiTransfer Pathways Agreements
To review the agreements in full and access a comprehensively explanatory video on agreement terms, visit https://www.mitransfer.org/technical-resources and select MiTransfer Pathways.
MiTransfer Pathway Agreement Highlights• Page 1 gives project history and names the MiTransfer Pathways courses selected for each pathway
• Pages 2-3 outline specific terms of the agreement, including effective dates (Dec 6, 2019-June 30, 2022), stipulations on transferability between participating institutions and notes on what the agreement does NOT do, including guarantee admission to any of the pathways
• Page 4 outlines details on maintenance and review of the agreements
• Pages 5+ (not pictured) include a list of all participating institutions and appropriate e-signatures
Appendix A –
Community College Worksheets
• Institution, degree, program
• MTA (including math recommendation)
• MiTransfer Pathways Courses
• Remaining Degree Requirements• Everything else to get the degree
listed at the top
• Includes “remaining hours” that act as free electives and can be selected according to the students intended transfer destination
Appendix B –
Four-Year Institution Worksheets
• Institution, degree, program(s)
• MTA (including math recommendation)
• MiTransfer Pathways Courses
• Remaining Degree Requirements• Suggested “lower-division” coursework
for community college transfer students that will meet bachelor’s degree requirements (not guaranteed to transfer but can be ensured on one-to-one basis)
Appendix C –
Course Equivalency Matrices
• Shows community college to four-year institution transferability among all participating institutions
• Green box = direct equivalent
• Grey box = approved equivalency exceptions (See Appendix D)
Remember: Data is procured directly from the MTN database from data uploaded by “receiving institutions” (four-year college and universities)
Appendix D –
Course Equivalency Exceptions
• Lists approved “exceptions” to course equivalency for MiTransfer Pathways
• Most commonly because a course is not required/offered at a particular institution
• All four-year institutions have developed work-arounds, most applying elective credit in the major

Academic Catalogs & Curriculum DevelopmentEastern Michigan University
Articulation Agreements in the Undergraduate
Catalog @ EMU
Starting with 2019-2020 we are adding each new articulation agreement to our undergraduate catalog.
Including our articulation agreements in our catalog serves two purposes:
1. A source of information for students and advisors
2. Informs our graduation advisors on substitutions, waivers, etc. that are included in each agreement.
MiTransfer Pathways
All four Phase I pathways are built in our 2020-2021 Undergraduate Catalog. The 2020-2021 catalog will be available to the public on March 1st.
Under each pathway and remaining degree requirements course, we state:
“or satisfied by these approved courses.”
The “approved courses” link takes students to the MiTransfer.org“Search by Receiving Institution” page for that course.
