Tata Power, an integrated power company, on Thursday inaugurated Tata Power Skill Development Institute's (TPSDI) Skills on
Wheels, a mobile concept to make skill training more accessible to people.
Through this Mobile training and assessment center, TPSDI will provide Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Motor Rewinding, Solar
Skills; training and accreditation to neighborhood electricians, etc.
The objective of launching Skills on Wheels is to provide training to neighborhood electricians by making training opportunities more
accessible to them. It is essentially a 16 x 8 x 8.6 ft. mobile container designed to seat 12 trainees at a time.
At one end of the container is the Neighborhood Electricians Simulator for Testing (NEST), which contains multiple electrical points
commonly found in typical Indian homes. The NEST, connected to an electrical motor, can be configured to create multiple faults
intended to be rectified by the trainees. The container also has a variety of tools used in household electrical work and common
household circuits, safety equipment and fire extinguishers
On the sidelines of Skills on Wheels initiative, TPSDI further celebrated the graduating ceremony of the 3rd batch of Neighborhood
Electricians, a program launched in collaboration with IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry to recognise the existing skills, and
validate and certify their competence.
Certificates were also distributed to the graduates of the course. A Welding Simulator Laboratory was inaugurated and dedicated for
the use of skilling people on welding skills. The welding simulators will reduce the learning cycle and enhance the quality of learning
before trainees are put on actual welding machine.
Speaking on the occasion, Anil Sardana, MD CEO, Tata Power, said, We appreciate TPSDIs efforts in taking forward Prime Ministers
vision of Skill India Mission. TPSDI will next expand its footprints beyond its four Training Hubs through a Hub Spoke model which
will include more mobile spokes centers like the TPSDI - Skills on Wheels. Over the next few years, we aspire to make TPSDI one
of the best in class technical training set ups in the country.
