REDEFINING

THE SENSE OF SUCCESS

Throughout these years, Someone Somewhere has gone from being a college project to a lighthouse iluminating the path up for many companies which are

seeking to create both, economic and social value.

Its purpose is inspiring a new kind of enterprises that, based on talent, creativity, and an innite dose of perseverance, are targeting the market at responding to social challenges by enhancing and professionalizing the work

of mexican artisans.

With the aspiration to be one of the best companies for the world, and not just the best of the world, the efforts of this Mexican company are redening the bond between fashion and the people behind its production. This is done in order to boost a wider, fair and humane textile industry. In addition, the

company is part of the global community of the Certied B Corporations.

In the following pages, you will be able to appreciate how Someone Somewhere revalues the term "impact". This report is a celebration of the results achieved this year, but most importantly, it highlights the commitment to keep improving the positive social impact that emerges from the bond

between hundreds of artisans and thousands of consumers.

OUR IMPACT MODEL

RESEARCH

We look for culturally rich communities that constantly seek

to nd an opportunity in their traditional activity.

CO - DESIGNING

We jointly create products demanded by the market.

These allows artisans to have a constant production,

paid as they deliver.

LOGISTICS

Artisans receive high quality materials in their

communities. Then, their nished artisanal work travels

to Mexico City for being assembled into the nal product.

SALE

Our team in Mexico City is responsible of

the production, promotion, distribution and

commercialization of the enduring good.

PROFESSIONALIZATION

We provide consultancy and close monitoring of the

growth of artisan groups to ensure that there is a

social impact and to promote their self-management.

OUR MOTIVATION

The social motivation with which we grew led us to live and

work together with artisans; on one hand, experimenting the

social and cultural wealth of the indigenous people and on

the other, the instability and isolation that they face in their

everyday life.

Through social entrepreneurship we are looking for new

alternatives to generate economic and social transformation,

building on social justice and a business logic .

Our online store together with the recent opening of physical ones, has enabled us to escalate very fast, guaranteeing both,

the best quality and customer experience.

Not only are we looking to build a strong connection between the creator and the consumer, but also aspiring to contribute

to the formation of a better society aware of the impact that their consumption habits can have on the planet.

We bolster our commitment as a driver of change by being evaluated in the

following dimensions:

Someone Somewhere has earned the B Company certication scoring 100.8;

being 80 the minimum score to obtain it. This year we pride ourselves on

positioning the company as one of the best internationally rated in the

Community Work category.

We remain committed on improving our score to consolidate and expand our

One of our main commitments is to provide regular job opportunities in the different communities.

From 2017 to 2018 we doubled the working months.

The communities of San Andrés and Aldama in Chiapas were an exception as the production of hats was stopped due to the lack of

an assembly provider in Mexico City. Work is being done to nd new products that can be made in both communities.

“Collaborating with Someone Somewhere enabled us to take a

step further. We have had tons of work, and as a result we have

been able to offer jobs to other people. Someone Somewhere

helped our workshop grow and we have been able to see how

many different things can be done with our products; not only

tablecloths or bedspreads. Moreover, we now take more chances

and experiment with new materials and combinations of colors.”

"Success is experienced by everyone

from their position. There are

widespread achievements, such as the

incorporation of someone new to the

team. For me it is to see that a certain

campaign worked and that it is

celebrated as a team. That makes you

want to do more. We have a limited

budget, that's why we always exploit

our creativity to the maximum so that

the results are incredible. It is

wonderful when something works out

because you know everything you went

through to achieve it. It is to prove

yourself that you can do incredible

things without having all the money in

the world. Then it is demonstrated that

the formula of success is passion,

dedication and talent, money is only

the consequence".

SECTORIAL DIMENSION

We collaborate with public, private, national and international

organizations to ensure the greatest scope of our impact.

We believe in collaborations for the creation of a textile, craft and

fashion ecosystem that can generate structural changes in the

methods of production and consumption.

Given the lack of information in the artisanal sector to determine a fair

payment scheme, we carried out an investigation from different perspectives

to be able to generate a tool that serves not only our company, but all the

initiatives that exist in this sector.

The calculation model considers data and statistics obtained from government

institutions such as the National Institute of Statistics and Geography

(INEGI), the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy

(CONEVAL) and the Secretariat of Welfare (SEDESOL). The model consists on

the payment by hour that an artisan must earn through his work, to surpass the

well-being line and to contribute to the household income, taking into account

their regional and familiar situation.

Since 2016 we are part of the Public Entrepreneurship Community, an

initiative that emerged from the Entrepreneurship and Transformation

Laboratory from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.

We are different actors of the artisanal ecosystem, from academics and

representatives of public bodies, to cultural managers and social

entrepreneurs who seek to inuence public policies that promote, conserve

and value the sector.

Alongside the community, we developed a proposal for special taxation for

artisans in which a fairer and more adequate scheme is suggested so that

artisans can be incorporated into the formal economy. With the entry of the

new government, the community will seek to promote this initiative.

"Someone Somewhere is a social enterprise that is

responsible for connecting any gender, community or work

group towards the same purpose. It watches over everyone

and for everyone; sometimes we sell ourselves the idea that

a social enterprise is only there to help those in real need,

yet I think that it isn't everything to it. I believe that a social

enterprise is simply the one that associates certain groups of

entities so that they can work together".

We set out to stop being the nerds of many trades, to specialize and nd expert people, with a considerable

amount of experience in each strategic area.

LESSONS 2018

ORGANIZATIONAL:FROM A STARTUP TO A SCALE UP

The growth strategy was focused on generating more regular work in the communities in which we already work, instead of expanding to several new ones. This involved a better production plan as well as coordinating the artisanal and industrial parts to deliver in time,

generating a greater impact.

ARTISANAL:QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY

It was concluded that the scal barrier is one of the main challenges to overcome due to the fact that it signicantly reduces the number of groups of artisans with whom we can work and prevents them from growing their businesses.

We know that if we want a better future, we have to build it; so our daily and simple task is

HEADING TOWARDS 2019

2018 has been a year full of emotions, challenges and great

lessons. We are well aware of the great challenges and

opportunity areas within Someone Somewhere. These are some of

those that we have set our minds on tackling in 2019:

Due to of all the above, while closing 2018, we would like to say: THANK

YOU.

Thanks to all our fellow travelers. To the clients who have decided to draw

new paths, to the advisors that guide us, to the investors who trust us and

provide reinforcements to keep us going on, to the brave ones who have

joined the dream and to those who have endured the ups and downs for the

last seven years, to those who coordinate their efforts and make this kind of

publications possible, to our families and friends who encourage us and,

above all, to the artisans, who are the origin, and the nal destination,

somewhere unknown but surely better.

For many more years of impact.

¡THANK YOU!
