SummaryIn 2014 it was an honour for Toni Subotin and Matt Evans to be elected to the Presidium for the Student Union. Although daunting to know that the voices of 10 000 students now rested upon the shoulders of two people, it was a challenge taken with enthusiasm nonetheless. The year has not been without its challenges, but, our aims and objectives have been clear. To leave the organisation, better and richer than when we found it.

We have strived to make the Student Union more accessible to members, to inform and be visible. This has meant a stronger focus on marketing communications to increase awareness about what we do and who we are. We understand that the messages and the way we presented them did not reach as many members as we wouldve liked, but the point is that we needed to start somewhere and experiment.

It is our belief that the Student Union is first and foremost a service organisation and that all our services should be available for members to use whether they choose to or not. This includes the political aspect as we offer a service to represent members on a local and national level. Although its important, it hasnt required that much attention this year and instead we have tried to develop opportunities for students to get engaged and improve the organisation itself by looking internally at how it functions.

As a result, one of our main focuses has been on building relationships, continuity within the organisation and with the university. Due to the Presidium changing every year, it was noticed that continuity lacks when it comes to fulfilling some obligations and completing projects.

As a result, new job descriptions have been created so that the next Presidium have a clearer understanding of their responsibilities towards members and the university. Permanent employees were provided with CPD (Continuing Professional Development) as well as a reorganization of their workloads to make it more enriching and so that no matter who becomes the next President and Vice President, tasks and ideas will be driven and fulfilled.

Its been a great year one of new ideas and focus and we are confident it will continue next year.

Key achievementSAssociations Coordinator To reduce the changeover weariness with the Project Leader elections every year, a new position was created to improve continuity between the university and the Student Union so that students could start, continue and develop associations. The position has minimal impact on the financial resources of the organization as it is being funded partly by the university and also by Jnkping Municipality.

We wanted to ensure that board members understood fully what it meant to sit on the board of the Student Union so we took the initiative to provide a brief course provided by an external consultant who had worked previously with other Swedish Student Unions. The Board is an important position and is ultimately representing the voices of students when it comes to the Presidiums work.

Project LeaderFormerly the Involvement Coordinator, the Project Leader is a development to focus on better support for associations and events. We ensure and guided the process so that the position now has the ability to source a wider range of resources, such as external funding to make it easier for members to engage with the Student Union and its projects.

Following a review of the workload carried out by permanent employees, it was decided that trips should be handled by an external company who have the proper resources to administer and run them. This has meant that employees time is better spend on initiatives that benefit students directly and also building better relationships with the University and Jnkping Municipality.

Student involvement & activitieSOne of the main goals of the Student Union is to provide the members with the opportunity to get involved in projects, associations and events outside the classroom. By offering this, students get added value to their time as a student and also get something to put on their rsums. A perfect way to get working experience during their studies.

This year campus has flourished. We have had a lot of big events including the autumn and spring Kick-Off were more than 3000 new students were welcomed. The Kick-Off was also awarded as the first IQ-project of its kind in Sweden, due to the alcohol and drug preventive work. In addition, a big theme this year has been fundraising events. For example JSU Colour Run was introduced were more than 600 students and citizens ran or walked around Munksjn at the same time as they donated money to Cancerfonden.

Last but not least. The Student Union has expanded the work with associations and hired a person who will help student associations with advice, support and to apply for financial aid.

integrationOne of the main focus areas of the Student Union is to work for a greater integration between the students at Jnkping University. Integration doesnt only mean between Swedish and International students, but also between international and international students, Swedish and Swedish students, and between students at the different schools of Jnkping University. This also covers integrating the international students with the Swedish culture and Swedish society.

Every semester, the Student Union provides a combination of extended and simple day-trips to make sure that the international students who come to Sweden get a wider insight and view of both Sweden and its neighbour countries. Example destinations include Russia, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Denmark and the famous Moose Safari in Vimmerby.

During the fall semester of 2014 we started to collaborate with Brunnen (a community youth centre by the Jnkping Municipality). All the events that Brunnen provides are open for the youths of Jnkping as well as the students at Jnkping University. This is also a great opportunity for the international students at the university to meet other Swedish people. 630 STUDENTS

digital Student unionSince May 2014 the Student Union has put a major effort into maximizing existing communication channels and finding new ways to improve the transparency of the organization. The primary question throughout the year has been: How can we better serve and create a dialogue with all of our members?

As a result, we now have a new responsive website in both Swedish and English, including a Project Pool and a Housing Portal, digital screens around campus and a feedback system (TUWYT) was just launched. In the near future all students will have the opportunity to send in their questions or problems directly to the highest boards of the University with a simple click.

Last but not least, thanks to the new website and digital screens, we will soon be able to get rid of all the printed material and thus take a huge step towards a more environmentally aware Student Union.

BooKS & coffee Our own self-sustaining caf has gone from strength-to-strength with low prices on homemade food and snacks. It is a daily meeting place for students from the entire university and hosts regular events to boost integration and inclusion such as Language Caf, Culture Days and Quiz Nights. The fact that Books, as its commonly known, is a non-profit operation means that cups of coffee can be sold for as little as 5 SEK saving students 500 000 SEK during the year on average compared to outlets that sell for 9 SEK per cup.

There are plans to develop Books even more and make it the go to place on campus for daily and early evening activities with an expanded range of services. These will include a wider range of hot food so that we can offer a genuine student-based After Work restaurant in the evenings.

This has been in the pipeline for at least 2 years and progress is being made.

aKademienAkademien continues its development to be Swedens best student night club by offering an inclusive and safe atmosphere. A new bar and renovation of the premises has enabled Akademien to offer a better environment to socialise and take a break from studies. It has become a focal element for many students during their time at Jnkping University who benefit from its self-sustaining operations which mean that any money that is generated is re-invested in improved facilities and services.

Although we have a volunteer crew, they are remunerated with payment-in-kind such as discounts, trips and personal development opportunities for their CV.

One such investment is the IQ Project Certification which is not only about providing free non-alcoholic drinks but also about educating students how to have a good time with or without alcohol. The IQ Project means were constantly striving to enhance the student social culture so that their time at Jnkping University is memorable. It also extends to our Fadders who are chosen to take care of new students at our two Kick Offs and will become and important red thread in our current and future operations. Other key achievements are:

150 students have worked as volunteers at Akademien. Together they have worked 17.000 hours to make it the best nightclub in Jnkping.

Served 17.000 meals to our awesome student population.

hi techStudent Association at JTH Our main mission the past two years has been branding, internationalization and development of business operations and will continue to do so in the coming years. HI TECH has worked with two main initiatives during the year:

HI WORK is the employment fair at JTH and over two years weve increased the amount of companies that want to come to JTH and meet our members by threefold.

Weve had a heavy focus on communication to our members, weve specialized on social media and gone away from the old model of email newsletters. A big focus has also been on internationalization and our communication language is now only English. Weve pulled the wagon for JTHs internationalization and because of us they have been speeding up their own internationalization.

In addition, HI TECH has representatives in committees such as: JTH-rep in the Management Team of the Student Union - By being

represented in the Student Union we can ensure that our views are heard on a wider platform and that any ideas or issues can be shared with other members of the team.

Member of the IT Advisory Committee - IT plays a big role in the lives of students at the university as there are many important systems that they need in order to complete their education. Through having a representative in this committee we can provide direct feedback from students to the university and make certain that any changes or improvements will not have any great effect on the learning environment.

JSaStudent Association at JIBSOur overall goals for 2015 are to further improve communication between students and the JSA board since it is important for our members to know that THEY are the JSA. Integration is our next objective. We are the largest and culturally diverse student association in Sweden and we want to prove that multiculturalism works! So, encouraging students to work with different backgrounds and cultures is our next big shot! Finally, strengthening our educational system is important if we are going to work on improving how were are seen to our current members and those who want to study at JIBS in the future.

So what have we done so far to achieve the goals above? JSA is currently undergoing an arrangement with JIBS in order to co-

fund a seed fund for which students can apply and go on international competitions worldwide! If youre a member of JSA then resources is your least problem if you intend to participate in international competitions. This seed fund will not only fund internationalization but also bring out a more entrepreneurial spirit within out students! |

As you already know, JSA representatives sit on several boards that influence student demands. CUME which is the board comprised of course coordinators is the most influential when it comes to education. Currently within CUME we are working with LOK and the Student Union and are pushing for anonymous exams as well as providing Swedish to be taught for free as a business language to international students.

loKStudent Association at HLK In our partnership with the Student Union, we have been working with anonymous exams for all students. This has been one of our main focus areas. We want to guarantee that the new system works for all students, not just for teachers. We also want to make sure that students feel comfortable with the changeover to this system so we are always checking how the university makes their decisions and how they carry out the introduction. Although the process has taken time, as of 2015, the university is trying a pilot programme so we can finally say that this will become a reality for students across the entire university.

In addition, LOK has representatives in committees that work across the entire university, not just HLK so that we can ensure that students opinions, concerns and ideas are represented accurately. These committees include:

HJU-R, the universitys education support committee to make sure that teachers, courses and programs are of a high quality.

SUK The Student Unions Education Committee this is the direct link between students and teachers and we are able to raise questions with the university and support students who may have problems or questions.

DAN Disciplinary and Expulsion Committee. Our representation means that the university makes fair decisions and that any disciplinary actions that are given out are balanced and do not have any extra penalties.

// Johan Samuelson, President LOK 2015

hlSoSeKtionStudent Association at HHJOur members are important, so we work with a range of different activities and projects to provide meaningful opportunities to complement their studies in their free-time. These include committees such as SUSHI that encourage integration with our international students and also working on events that boost contact with employers for jobs after graduation.

We have representatives in different boards, meeting groups and advisory committees so that students voices are represented not just within the school but across the entire university too.

Hlsosektion has representatives in committees such as: Board of Education and Research (NUF) - This is one of the highest

boards in the university when it comes to education and research quality. Any decisions made here often affect students on every level and having a representation here means that we can see what decisions are made and also that problems are worked with in the best way possible

Student Centre- Together with the Student Union, we have had representation in a university project group for the new Student Centre. This is so that whatever the university decides, it will ultimately work best for students and that they receive a higher level of service with everything from exams, accommodation and campus issues. There are many factors to consider with the ultimate goal being the students have a one stop shop for all their questions and problems and that they do not need to go to different offices or people to get things solved.
