Reputationand integrityis everythingat Euro Fruits
We consider our “Impeccable Corporate Reputation” as the single most valuable asset and competitive edge.During the past 25 years of existence, Euro Fruits has not gone back on its commitment to any of our supply chain partners or re-negotiated contracts despite challenging situations in few seasons. This is the only such example in the Indian Table Grape industry. We have proactively carried out Corporate Due Diligence exercises to confirm our statutory compliances and governance practices. Euro Fruits has always pre-paid all obligations to the financial institutions, ahead of the contracted re-payment schedule. Our contribution to India’s FOREX kitty is nearly Euro 100 million. Euro Fruits’ Direct taxes contribution to the national exchequer is in excess of Euro 4 million at current exchange rates. With our commitment to the capacity building of our domestic packing material suppliers, import intensity of our operations is less than 4% of our export earnings.
“Under Promise and Over Deliver” is our corporate mantra.

Proactive andTransformativeComplianceApproach
Proactive andTransformativeComplianceApproach
Euro Fruits is the front runner in introducing proactive ‘ahead of the curve’ compliances to Indian Table Grape industry, being the first to take accreditation initiatives on Food Safety, Good Agricultural Practices, Ethical standards, Fair-Trade, Environment/Health/Safety standards, Gender Equity, Water Stewardship etc.
Apart from obvious marketing edge on certification, Good Agricultural Practice standard, translated in local Marathi language by Euro Fruits, helped farmers in better farm inputs, inventory management and cost reduction. It also helped farmers understand the importance of formal training and capacity building in farming practices. Euro Fruits introduced the packhouse workers to the concept of Living Wages and enhanced the scales to go beyond the statutory requirements.
Gender Equity standard compliance in our packhouse made lady supervisors as key decision makers in operations and quality control, a domain long held by men only.
Water Stewardship standard introduction at farm level has made our farmers aware about the quality of discharge water and measures to minimize its groundwater pollutant effect.
Euro Fruits is now spreading the transformative approach across industry and beyond by participation in IDH Sustainable Grapes India program, participation in GlobalGAP standard setting process, participation as jury in the USAID/UK AID supported Millennium Alliance program for start-up innovative agribusiness projects and giving inputs as member of SIFAV2020 Working Group on Fair Trading practices with small holder farmers etc.
Euro Fruits recording and reporting formats have become Industry standard in India!

FairTradeCertificationFairTradeCertification
Euro Fruits identified the relevance of “FairTrade standards compliance” and certification for the Indian grape farms in 2006. We appointed consultants to introduce the FairTrade concept to Euro Stars and our farmer suppliers. At that time there was no price-premium set for Indian FairTrade table grapes.Euro Fruits interacted with FairTrade Labeling Organization, FLOCERT certification body, FairTrade Foundation UK, FLO Pricing Unit over the next five years. In Season 2012, Euro Fruits became the first Indian table grape exporter to market FairTradecertified grapes to the European markets.
Our enlightened initiative, started in 2006, has now resulted into several FairTrade certified farmer groups in India, serving the global markets. Euro Fruits FairTrade grape exports now support three such FairTrade farmer groups in terms of pricing and premium.

Trust BasedFarmer RelationshipStory
Trust BasedFarmer RelationshipStory
Across the Indian grape export industry, there is a standard commercial practice that exporters harvest plots based on the quality parameters defined by them on individual bunch selection basis. The left over bunches, after the exporter’s harvest is completed, are sold in the domestic market by the farmers.Given the significant price difference between the export and domestic market, selection/ rejection of individual bunches is always a point of contention between Exporters and Farmers. “Euro Fruits introduced the Self-Harvest” practice since 2013. Euro Fruits conducted capacity building sessions with farmers to make them understand the specific quality parameters that distinguish between an export worthy and otherwise bunch. Thereafter Euro Fruits encouraged the farmers to conduct the harvest operations on their own without the presence of Euro Fruits representatives. This step change initiative has changed our relationship with farmers from transactional to trust based, a model being aspired by other exporters. About 1,000 metric tons of produce was self-harvested by Euro Fruits group farmers during Season 2017.

Farmer CapacityBuilding onCore QualityParameters
Farmer CapacityBuilding onCore QualityParameters
Indian grape farmers traditionally targeted two quality parameters – Berry size and Looks. “Euro Fruits identified Taste, Eating quality and Mouth Feel as the key parameters”. Euro Fruits arranged one to one on farm meetings between the farmers and European retailer technical teams to make farmers understand the consumer perspective. Since 2004, Euro Fruits circulated guidance note amongst the supplier farms on specific quality parameters that they should target beyond the obvious aspects like looks and berry size.
The concept of Minimization of the use of plant growth regulators and need for avoiding over emphasis on berry size maximization at the cost of taste profile in managing cultural practices was introduced by Euro Fruits to supply farmers since 2010. This focus has had distinct improvement and impact on taste and eating quality of Euro Fruits supplies.
Across the industry and far beyond our farmer group, improving taste profile of Indian grapes is the single most sought after objective today, thanks to Euro Fruits focus for over ten years ago.

SpreadingEthicalComplianceamongst IndianTable Grape Farms
SpreadingEthicalComplianceamongst IndianTable Grape Farms
Euro Fruits introduced “BSCI Code of Conduct based Ethical practices” to our supply farms in 2009 for the first time. Euro Fruits announced formal Social and Ethical Compliance Policy with Centralized Control and Management system Manual in 2009.ETI Base Code and SMETA process was introduced to the farmers in 2010.Euro Fruits directly engaged farm workers of our supply farms for capacity building in respect of their rights and responsibilities within the legal framework since 2011. ETI SMETA based farm ethical audits process is financially supported by Euro Fruits. Presently 33 of our supplier farms are ETI-SMETA audited/certified with SEDEX platform linkage to our clients. We plan to double this number annually over the next three years to cover all supplier farms. Euro Fruits has compiled a formal questionnaire to capture Sustainability related practices of our packing material suppliers and service providers and provide guidance on incremental improvements. This has prompted few suppliers to seek formal ethical gap assessments of their operations.
Farm Ethical compliances on Euro Fruits supply farms increased the owner-worker collaboration based on trust, helping farmers retain their most important asset. The initiatives also improved health and safety standards of farm workers and their families.
We are well aware about our huge responsibility to extend this initiative across the entire Industry, in a non-competitive manner.
31
FormalContractualAgreementbetweenFarmers andFarmWorkers
FormalContractualAgreementbetweenFarmers andFarmWorkers
In the Indian context, agreements between farm owners and farm workers have always been verbal. Euro Fruits studied the global best practices guided by “Ethical Trading Initiative UK” code and drafted an all-encompassing contract document for farm workers. This was made in the local language and local context. Training sessions were conducted both for farm workers and farmers to introduce them to this formal concept. In 2014, Euro Fruits appointed Impact UK to conduct a formal study titled “Supporting Ethical Improvements at Euro Fruits Grape Farms” to validate the farm laboragreements, amongst other aspects. This farm worker - farm labor contract agreement is now a part of Euro Fruits standard operating record for the supplier farms. Formal audits are conducted as per SMETA/BSCI guidelines by accredited audit agencies to confirm compliance to the written contracts with actual practices and procedures. This initiative is now spreading across the Industry with farmers and workers seeking a written contract based on Euro Fruits format.

EuropeanRetailersPrivate LabelBusiness
“Euro Fruits is the first Indian exporter to be trusted with Private Label by European retailers since 2002.”While this is a major responsibility for Euro Fruits team, this results in major cost savings for our retailer clients. Euro Fruits was entrusted in 2016 private label pack-out of the leading retailer in Europe, which was their first such attempt globally. We continue the private label pack-out for the retailer since then.Private label presently constitutes over 80% of our total packing operations. We are committed to focus on cost optimization impact for our clients by emergingpractices like direct deliveries, bulk pack-outs, logistics precision etc.

Euro FruitsFinancialInclusionInitiatives
Euro Fruits continues to be the “Best Rewarding Employer” in Indian table grapeindustry. This is obviously reflected in the near zero attrition rate. Euro Fruits financially supports supplier farms in the event of natural disasters.Primary Education is the focus area for “Euro Fruits CSR Activities” with set up on English medium primary school in 2006 for the benefit of wards of small-holder farmers andpackhouse workers. Presently the school educates 240 students supported by 25 teaching staff. Euro Fruits philanthropic activities carried on since over a decade include supporting Kamala Mehta Blind School, Nana Palkar cancer patient support centre, Prabodhini Trust differently enabled children day school and Sanjeevan Vrudhrashram Old age home.Story of Sarika and Vikas, our harvest worker couple whose infant son, suffering from hole in his heart and was awarded a new lease of life with support from Euro Fruits is indeed an example of Euro Fruits Inclusion Commitment.
