TEST DRIVE
The automated Barcelona’s electric-bike sharing system is made of two different parts: stations
and electric bikes.
The stations are essentially made up of electromechanical locks that allow the bikes to be
securely parked. Moreover, the stations are equipped with electric chargers that feed the
lithium-ion latest technology batteries located inside the bikes.
The electric bikes are made of aluminium, with a very low weight allowing the use of the bike
even without any electrical pedaling assistance. The battery is charged by the station through
the bike locking pins.
Additionally and thanks to the embedded management software, the new electric-bike sharing
system can be easily adapted to the traditional bike sharing system, enabling a full integration of
both systems.

DYNAMIC DEMO
Autonomous Emergency Braking system (AEB) is an advanced driver assistance system that
help the driver in the avoidance of frontal collisions against other vehicles, vulnerable road
users and other kinds of objects. In case the driver is not able to handle a critical situation, the
system will warn him about oncoming hazards, will support him in the braking action and, as a
last step, will automatically brake the vehicle to avoid the impact. These systems use perception
sensors to detect objects around the vehicle, such as RADARs, LIDARs and mono/stereo camer-
as, and complex algorithms to quantify the risk of having a collision and decide how to avoid it.
The demonstration activity will show a vehicle fitted with an AEB system able to avoid collisions
against pedestrians. The vehicle will detect a crossing pedestrian in front of the vehicle and,
once the situation becomes too critical, will automatically trigger the brakes to avoid an impact.
In case the situation is too complex (high speed, low reaction time), the system will try to reduce
impact speed as much as possible, in order to mitigate the consequences of the overrun.
EXHIBITION
HeERO addresses the pan-European in-vehicle emergency call service “eCall” based on 112,
the common European Emergency number. For three years (January 2011 to December 2013),
the nine European countries forming the HeERO 1 consortium (Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland,
Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania and Sweden) carried out the start-up of an
interoperable and harmonised in-vehicle emergency call system.
The second phase of the HeERO project - HeERO 2 - started on 1st January 2013 and will last
2 years. 6 new countries (namely Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain and Turkey)
have joined the other 9 pilot sites of HeERO 1. Furthermore, other countries who wished to
become HeERO partners, but have not succeeded for several reasons, became associate
partners, a status allowing them to benefit from the expertise of HeERO 1 and 2 but not granting
them access to EC funding.
The HeERO consortium is currently testing and validating in real conditions pilots the common
European eCall standards defined and approved by the European Standardisation Bodies.
The project is partially funded by the European Commission under the ICT PSP programme.
