don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.‖ Oprah Winfrey.
From the Vicar’s Desk
Dear Immanuel family, We have entered the month of November .I praise God with you for all the manifold blessings God has showered upon us as a parish and as families in the past ten months of 2017. We are Nearing another Advent season. Let us prepare our selves to receive and share the joy and real meaning of incarna-tion. The first Sunday of November is observed as world Sunday school day. It was in the eighteenth century that Robert Raikes started the Sunday School movement in Europe. Later most of the churches started and adopted Sunday schools and recognized the importance of Sunday School in their faith Jour-ney. The Mar Thoma Church also started Sunday School Samajam as an or-ganization in 1905. Since then Sunday school has played an important role in the spiritual growth of the church. At this time remember with gratitude all those who have contributed for the growth of Mar Thoma Sunday School. By the grace of God we have a very well organized Sunday School here at Immanuel MTC, Houston. I appreciate and acknowledge the selfless service of all the teachers and leaders of the Sunday School. As times and situations change the Sunday School faces a lot of challenges. Interpreting the un-changing word of God according to the changing contexts and needs and social realities is really a challenging task. Bringing up the generations in the faith tradition of the church in the midst of the cultural diversity is a great challenge before us. Sunday schools should not be just a place where knowledge is imparted but should be a venue for the next Generation to find spiritual mentors and models. Both Sunday school teachers and parents should make a conscious effort to be role models of faith to the coming Gen-erations that God has entrusted us. The ethos of the church should be con-sciously formulated so as to provide a fertile soil for the spiritual growth of the generations. We should dare to implement what can build our genera-tions up and give up what hinders the spiritual growth of the next Genera-tion. Imparting of Christian knowledge should be properly balanced with involvement in social action and charitable initiatives so that the faith we teach can be experienced to be practical and meaningful. May God almighty help us through His Holy Spirit to enable Our Generations to grow in the real understanding of the essence of the Gospel of Christ Jesus. May God bless us all. Yours in Christ's Mission Unnithanachen
Worship and Liturgy
Worship: Worship is the highest activity of man whose sole and ultimate aim is God’s glory. Neglect of worship is indi-cation of spiritual barrenness. Worship is the uniting force of a community and through which life and witness are maintained. Those who question the corporate worship are those who have the attitude of proud individualism. Those who question the or-der of worship question the order of life itself.
Church is a worshiping community (Acts 2:42, 46,47)
and Christ’s presence pronounced in a special way to the compa-ny of believers (Mt.18.20). In corporate worship we are one with the celestial worship as well(1 Thess.5.10). Worship is not just praising God. Though praise and adoration is important there should be penitence, confession and intercession. Authentic wor-ship must bring to the altar along with the bread and wine, our offerings of joys and sorrows of all mankind and creation.
Liturgy. Liturgy is the vehicle of our worship. A liturgy
is a set form of ceremony or pattern of worship. Christian liturgy is a pattern for worship used (whether recommended or pre-scribed) by a Christian congregation or denomination on a regu-lar basis. The word comes from the Classical Greek word λειτουργία (leitourgia) meaning "public work". Literally means service rendered to God and man. The church use of the term comes from its frequent and historic use in the Greek text of the New Testament (eg. Acts 13:2). It referred to a public and delib-erate, well-defined ceremony
St. James Liturgy: The Eucharistic liturgy of our church
is the Liturgy of St. James. The liturgy of St. James is one of the oldest Anaphora which is still in use. It originated in Jerusalem and because of that reason it seemed to be widely venerated and accepted. The authorship of this Anaphora is traditionally at-tributed to St. James, the brother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the first Bishop of Jerusalem. Manuscript discoveries confirm that, the Liturgy of St. James was used in the Churches of Palestine, Arabia, Syria, Armenia, Georgia, Slavonic coun-tries, Greece, Ethiopia and Egypt. No other Eastern Anaphora seems to have a wider circulation in the history of the Church.

The Vicars and members of the Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, at this time express our sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Let us keep them in our thoughts and
Different versions of St. James liturgy is practiced in ori-ental churches. What the Mar Thoma Church now using is Meso-potamian version. It is easy to follow and enriched with elements of solemnity majesty and mystery. This liturgy is called peoples liturgy as it maintains a continuous dialogue between the cele-brant and worshippers.
Our liturgy is full of symbolism and its prayers are replete
with idioms, images and echoes of the bible. Our liturgy takes care of the five senses. It unfolds spiritual drama: Incarnation, suffering, death, resurrection and coming again of Christ re-lived in the present and the experience of sacred time.It involves sym-bolism of (1) words and action, (2) vestment and voice, (3) light and smell, (4) vision and concealment.
Our Liturgy transforms historical time into Sacred time.
Liturgy helps us to experience eternity here and now. That is why we call liturgical time as Sacred time. It overcome the limi-tations of historical time. In the liturgical service, past, present and future are brought together on the same platform. Therefore, it breaks the boundaries of time and geographical space. When past, present and future are brought on the same platform and time, sacred time transcends the limitations of historical and line-ar time and moves into qualitative time. Eternity is the qualitative time that transcends and breaks the limitations of time and space. Therefore, Liturgy makes us to experience eternity today and here. Hence, liturgy is for all times making to experience eternity at all times and all places. Compiled by: Anu Achen

Light to Life project
The -light to life –project to sponsor the unprivileged
children in India is in progress. Our aim is to sponsor at least 150 students and hand over the amount to our Di-
ocesan Thirumeni during the Episcopal visit in December. To sponsor a child, it is only 20.00 per
month or $240.00 per year.
Thanksgiving
The year has turned its circle, The seasons come and go,
The harvest all is gathered in And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures, The fields, their yellow grain, So open wide the doorway- Thanksgiving comes again!
Thanksgiving day prayer
O God, when I have food,
help me remember the hungry; When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless; When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home all; When I am without pain,
help me remember those who suffer, And be concerned enough to help;
by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen.
