Immaculate Conception School 2018 Valedictorian Speech~ Benjamin Pierce!! ! Before I give my speech, I would like to thank you all for being here on this special day. Thank you to all the faculty and staff and all of our family members who have helped us throughout this adventure that we have gone through. I would also like to give a special thanks to Father Marc and Mrs. Short for being the leaders on our adventure. !

I like to think of school as a space launch, and of us, the Class of 2018, as the astronauts. Even though the astronauts on board may get all the credit for going on that journey, it was really a group effort. !

You need people to train the astronauts to be able to be fit, and well prepared to survive. I like to think of these people as our parents and our family members. They are always there for us, to comfort us, and to help us during times when we need it, whether it’s studying for a final or just a simple homework problem that you just can't quite figure out how to solve. !

Another important task that needs to be done in order for astronauts to complete their journey successfully is, of course, building the rocket. Someone needs to build the rocket, the basis and vehicle of the journey. I like to think of the builders as the religious leaders in our school community, especially Father Marc, who builds up our faith. Faith is the rocket on the journey we call school. !

There are still others that make up this team, those that need to direct where the rocket will go and coordinate the details, whether it’s blasting off or dropping the fuel tanks. The ones responsible for this are our teachers. They show us where we need to go, continually direct and guide us, and keep us pointed in the right direction. !

The astronauts are often accompanied by fellow astronauts. These fellow astronauts are us, the Class of 2018. Like any team, we are always there for each other. We are all always quick to answer that one frequent question “What was the math homework”, or, “Do we have a reading log due tomorrow”? !!

The launch and journey are a complete group effort. The astronauts cannot do it alone. They need a team. They need a crew. The crew I’ve shared my experience with at Immaculate Conception School through these past eleven years have always been there for me, to comfort me, to build my faith, to teach and guide me, and to support me; I am just one of the nine amazing astronauts on this journey. So thank you everyone, thank you for being my Crew, and I say this on behalf of the Class of 2018, like any astronaut would “Keep Reaching for the Stars!”. Thank you!!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,!! Thank you very much for your warm welcoming last week. I had a chance to meet some of you after Mass and I got a glimpse of the blessing that is this parish. I am truly humbled and grateful to continue my ministry with you and promise to keep you daily in my prayers and thoughts.!!! It is with both sadness and joy that I announce some staff transitions for our parish. We are grateful for all they have done, and we will keep them in our prayers. These coming weeks we will be planning how to cover their responsibilities and looking who would be able to fill their positions.!!! Mr. Zachary Ludwig, Director of Facilities, has moved on from his work at Immaculate !Conception Parish to support his family’s business.! As we say goodbye, we thank him for his hard work over the last three years. Please, keep him, Sarah, and their growing family in your prayers.!!! Dr. Dorie Mansen, Director of Mission, also will be transitioning this summer as she joins the faculty at Merrimack College. For 3 years, Dorie has worked with the parish and school’s faith !formation program, from early childhood education through adult faith formation. Dorie and I are working to make this a smooth transition among the parishioners and staff, and to set in place plans to ensure that the missioncentered programming will continue well into the future. Dorie will remain on staff through the summer, and we will have the chance to thank her for her work at the conclusion of her time here.!!! I know that you join me in expressing gratitude for the entire staff of Immaculate Conception Parish.! We ask the blessed Mother to continue to guide them as they serve the people of God and his holy Church. !!!
