WE PRAY

As we approach the end of our church liturgical year, we look to our common future and live ever fully the Promise today. Our response

to the Hebrew Scripture is the canticle from the Beatitudes: “Rejoice and be glad; blessed are you, holy are you for yours is the Kingdom

of God.” This Good News is proclaimed in All Saints Day, the wonderful feast of all God’s people. Our Gospel Acclamation majesti-

cally sings: “Alleluia; Jesus is our King.” Our church year concludes with the solemnity of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior of the whole

world. Coming to the Lord’s table we remember, “When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your Death until you come

again.” God’s love for us is so deep that Jesus could give His life for all people. Our lives are transformed to be that same Christ for

each other!

We gather around the Lord's Table and are sent out as Christ's beloved disciples.

November Evening Prayer

As this autumn day draws to a close, I marvel that this earth has been spinning at over a thou-

sand miles an hour. Quickly indeed, for so massive a planet, has one complete revolu-

tion finished since this time last evening. As the nighttime view of space opens before

me, filled with the splendor of sparking stars, I pause to be consciously one with

you, the loving creator of this whole universe. Wrap me in wonder and awe as I now

enter into silent communion with you.

This autumn evening whose wind carries songs of harvest gratitude, is part of the prayer my

heart lifts up to you with love and thanksgiving.

Oh how easily, my beloved God, do I believe that I am in charge of my life, that this day has

succeeded because of my efforts. With humility I acknowledge that ;you have been at

the sacred source of the good that I have done and the evil I have avoided. To raise that

awareness, I now ask for your gracious assistance in my life as I pray for the foll-

owing intentions: ___________. May my prayers for those I love weave ever more

strongly the web that unites us, as I now lift up their needs: __________.

Tired of body but full of gratitude, I prepare to enter into the healing embrace of sleep. May this

night be salve for both body and soul; may it fill me with energy and grant rest to my

mind. I am mindful that I sleep secure while many are homeless, aliens in a strange l

and or separated from those they love. Cover them In the tent of your holy presence

and give them hope, as I now surrender in love my day, my life and my very being unto

you, my Beloved.

Blessed are you, O Harvest of my heart,

Mrs. Mary Beth Smith, Secretary St. Mary's Academy is the parish school of the Immaculate Conception Faith Community. Founded in 1891, St. Mary's Academy

provides education for students beginning in Pre-Kindergarten and continuing through Grade 6.

Our pancake brunch will be held this Tuesday, November 20th beginning

SAVE THE DATE: West Side Drive will be back at SMA for our holi-

FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS…We are looking for volunteers at the

Faith Formation

Classes continue Sunday, December 2nd. We gather at Eucha-

rist and then continue with class at SMA. Our next class is De-

cember 16th.

St. Mary’s Academy Alumni Appeal

It's that time of year for our annual Alumni Appeal! All alumni, friends,

and family are welcome to donate!!! Last year our alumni donated over

$7,000 to our worthy cause of providing quality Catholic education in

our community for over 127 years.

Letters have been mailed -- IF you did not receive one and would like to

donate, please contact Pat Hayes or Mary Beth Smith at SMA and the

appeal letter will be mailed to you. You can also just drop a check in the

mail to SMA or donate via our website: Go to Fundraising click on

Christmas Basket Program

A Program of the Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA)

The Christmas Basket Program provides participating families with

fixings for Christmas dinner, a pair of pajamas for each child in the

household, and additional food as available. The program is made pos-

sible by the generous support of our community. Anyone wishing to

donate time, money, food, and/or pajamas please contact Immaculate

Conception Parish Office at (518)686-5064. Monetary donations are

being accepted as well; checks can be made out to Immaculate Concep-

tion. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to assist in

Scripture Insights

Reading the signs of the times! The tone and words of today’s readings

appear dark and troubling, but they are intended to offer us hope and

expectation. Our first Reading, from the prophet Daniel, looks forward

to an afterlife where those faithful to God will rise to an eternal life.

This passage is the earliest reference in the Scriptures to hope in an indi-

vidual resurrection.

Today’s Gospel passage comes from a chapter in Mark’s Gospel in

which Jesus speaks for the entire chapter, about his Second Coming at

the end of time. Jesus uses images, pictures, and the imagination of the

Jewish people to describe this event. He is not giving a blueprint for

exactly what is going to take place in the future. Instead, by means of

the images, he conveys a simple truth that he will return at the end of

time. We proclaim this truth in the Apostles Creed: “I believe in the

resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.”

Jesus’ words are not meant to be terrifying. The apocalyptic imagery at

least partly reflects the suffering and evil that people were already expe-

riencing. This evil will surely be vanquished when Christ returns, and

this vanquishing of evil will surely entail some chaos before the dawn of

peace. As part of the Gospel, the Good News, Jesus’ words offer us the

hope that we are destined for eternal life. The Gospel calls on us to be

watchful and to lead our lives in expectation of the master’s return.

When he will come is not important; what is important is that we lead

our daily lives prepared to meet him when in fact he does return, as we

pray daily in the Our Father “ Thy Kingdom come!”

Appreciation Brunch

Sunday, December 2, 11:30 AM at Frist United Church. We express

our deepest appreciation for the congregation of First United Church

and pastor Rev. Donna Elia; their generosity and good will are inspiring.

The kids, teachers, and families of Faith Formation are hosting a simple

meal after the Presbyterian Service to thank our fellow Christians. Any-

Regional Food Bank

The 71st Annual Troy Turkey Trot, on Thanksgiving (Thursday Nov.

22nd, is a great time for the family to run, walk, or cheer while support-

ing the Regional Food Bank of Northeast New England reach this year’s

goal of $20,000 in donations. Races include 10K, 5K and 1 mile, with

prizes for best Thanksgiving Day costume and family team awards.

When the liturgical year reaches a close, the readings urge us to remem-

ber that the cycle won’t always continue, not for individuals, not for the

Church, not for the universe. We all will conclude in a long-awaiting

reunion with Christ. For a a good reflection on trials and tribulations,

- as a young person discerning our life, as a parent, or as an ailing elder,

pray over the apocalyptic pattern - bad things happen and lead the way

to advances and deeper glory.

Festival of Trees

Hoosick Rising and the Village of Hoosick Falls are teaming up to coor-

dinate a tree lighting festival in Wood Park on December 8th at 6 PM.

There will be singing Holiday carols and walking and singing our way

through the village followed by a celebration with music and cookies.
