Foreword

4NEWS@IME

Welcome to our latest edition of News@IME.

Global economy has rendered our world to

be borderless today! The demand for a more quality life today has made many people to look outside their traditional marketplace for the opportunity for a better living. Many have moved beyond their geographical areas in order to seek for greater opportunities and to broaden their horizon.

But no matter where we are today, we will still not be able to totally cut off from our root. Many would still provide some financial support back to the origin of their root. Remittance have bridge the gap between us and our root for a long time. And it will continue to do so for the many of us that still hold our origin close to our hearts.

For many years, IME have served a wide range of corridors in selected regions of the world through our esteemed agents and partners. IME have always looked towards the continual expansion of our product and services.

Recently, our Malaysian market saw the introduction of money

exchange facility and online remittance channel. IME

is currently preparing itself to introduce mobile remittance channel to its Malaysia operations. Our interest, as our growth and reputation have shown, will continue to provide a lasting and reliable service to our

customers.

Keep remitting!

Executive Chairman of Interna-tional Money Express (IME)

and Chairman of Global IME Bank Mr. Chandra Prasad Dhakal is one of the keynote speakers from Nepal at the Re-gional Conference on Money Service Business (RCMSB) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Mr. Dhakal was invited by Bank Negara Malaysia, the organizer of this event, to participate in the three-day long conference. As a keynote speaker in the conference, Mr. Dhakal stressed on the need of raising the standards of compliance in the remittance industry. He mentioned about Nepal’s institutional efforts to improve compliance standards and also highlighted the need to discourage the use of informal channels for

money transfers to Nepal. Sharing about the private sector involvement in the MSB (Money Service Business) industry, Mr. Dhakal added that private remittance companies in Nepal are been duly meeting the regulatory standards of anti-money laundering/ counter financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) measures.

Highlighting the low risks of money laundering and financing terrorism in Nepal Mr. Dhakal said, “The risks of money laundering and terrorism financing are relatively low in Nepal through the use of formal remittance channels as migrant workers’ remittances constitute a large share of money transfers to Nepal but with relatively low transaction value.”

The conference is attended by the distinguished representatives from World Bank, Central Banks, International Association of Money Transfer Network (IAMTN), Commercial Banks, Money Transfer Companies, regulatory agencies and individual experts in the money transfer business from various countries.

EventsThe word “retro” derives from the

Latin prefix retro, meaning “backwards, or in past times” – particularly as seen in the words retrograde, implying a movement toward the past instead of a progress toward the future, and retrospective, referring to a nostalgic (or critical) eye toward the past.

All IME staffs traveled through “time and space” back to 1980’s on the grand night of 24 January 2014 in Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Yellow hair, polka dots, tight fitting pants and platform shoes are everywhere. Even Elvis Presley comes alive!

The night was filled with explosive performances and prestigious awards for the staff. The award categoriesare Best Promoter, Best Teller, Best Branch-In-Charge, Best Branch, Best Inter-Partnering Award, Long Service Award and Best Employee.

The dinner was held separatly in northern and southern region on 15th

January 2013 and 20th January 2013.

Retro style is style that is

consciously derivative or imitative of trends, modes, fashions, or attitudes of the recent past. It generally implies a vintage of at least fifteen or twenty years. For example, clothing from the 1980s or 1990s could be retro.

The culture of Malaysia draws on the varied cultures of the different people

of Malaysia. The first people to live in the area were indigenous tribes that still remain and they were followed by the Malays, who moved there from mainland Asia in ancient times. Chinese and Indian cultural influences made their mark when trade began with those countries, and increased with immigration to Malaysia.

Various influences can be seen in architecture, from individual cultures in Malaysia and from other countries. Large modern structures have been built, including the tallest twin buildings in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers.

Malaysia is a multi–ethnic, multicultural, and multilingual society, and the many ethnic groups in Malaysia maintain separate cultural identities. The society of Malaysia has been described as “Asia in miniature”. The government has historically made little distinction between “Malay culture” and “Malaysian culture”. Each ethnic group has its own underlying culture that separates it from the others, and they have achieved different levels of integration. A joint Malaysian culture can be seen in the symbiosis of the cultures of the people within it.

Ho Chi Minh City formerly named Saigon is the largest city in Vietnam. It was once

known as Prey Nokor, an important Khmer sea port prior to annexation by the Vietnamese in the 17th century. With unbelievable abundance of fresh vegetables, herbs, fish and seafood, Vietnam has a lot to offer. It can be mentioned here a range of widely- admired dishes such as noodle served with beef or chicken( pho), spring roll, eel or snail vermicelli, crab fried with tamarind, crab sour soup, rice spaghetti, steamed rolls made of rice-flour, rice pancake folded in half (and filled with a shrimp, meat and soya bean sprouts).

Many Vietnamese dishes are flavored with fish sauce (nước mắm), which smells and tastes like anchovies (quite salty and fishy) straight from the bottle, but blends into food very well. Vietnam’s national dish is phở (pronounced like the fu- in funny, but with tone), a broth soup with beef or chicken and rice noodles (a form of rice linguini or fettuccine). Phở is normally served with plates of fresh herbs(usually including Asian basil), cut limes, hot chiles and and scalded bean sprouts which you can add in according to your taste, along with chili paste, chili sauce, and sweet soybean sauce.
