Established in 1968 by a group of leading advertising and fashion photographers, the Association of Photographers or AOP has grown to become one of the UK’s leading and most respected membership organisations for professional photographers working in the commercial sector.
AOP50 is a showcase of over 50 amazing images from some of the world’s most well-known and respected photographers gathered together in one place for the first time.
AOP50 is curated by Zelda Cheatle, the renowned photography expert, curator, editor, lecturer and photography consultant. Zelda worked at the Photographers Gallery before opening her own gallery, exhibiting the maestros and the emerging talents of the medium.
‘I was looking for a good cross section of what the Association has stood for over these many years, to represent 50 years of creativity and talent. Instead of finding a picture from every year I worked across decades, and across these decades, I loosely grouped Advertising, Editorial, Still Life, Portraiture, Fine Art and Landscape, and found representatives of those genres. The exhibition shows what an extraordinary powerhouse of highly skilled, motivated, creative, ingenious individuals working in photography are capable of, all of whom have one thing in common – that they are members of the AOP.’ Zelda Cheatle, 2018
