I am so pleased to welcome you to Imagemakers 2008 Trade Show and Convention. As soon as you come through the doors and into the lobby I believe you will feel the excitement and anticipation!

Stop and have a look at the display exhibit of the entries and winners of the Annual Sign Competition. You will be able to view some of the finest examples of the design and technology that is helping to generate such amazing progress within the Canadian sign industry. If you have never submitted an entry before, plan to participate next year when hundreds of visitors can see your work and learn more about your business.

The show floor itself is always humming with activity and this year is no exception. You will find much that is familiar among the companies who join us every year, but this year you will also see some new exhibitors, from across the border and beyond. Several booths have ballots for draws to win some great prizes so why not fill one out and listen for the regular announcements of the winners. Take your time to visit all of our excellent booths – I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised!

Of course, the ‘Letterhead’ artisans of the sign industry will be found at the ever popular Great Canadian Beaver Dam. You will find wood & foam carving, pin striping, gold leafing, hand lettering, air brushing, and other artistry and skills demonstrated non-stop. All the traditional skills that have been the foundation of signage for decades, if not longer, will be demonstrated in an interactive fashion. There is always a crowd at the “Beaver Dam” so be sure you don’t miss out on all the action!

René Giroux, Regional Manager of Les Enseignes Perfection Inc. René has been a professional sign maker, sign painter and graphic artist for the last 25 years in addition to being a member of the Great Canadian Beaver Dam.

Pierre Tardif, owner of P. Tardif Inc. With over 15 years of experience as a professional sign maker and sign painter, Pierre is also a member of the Great Canadian Beaver Dam.

René will cover general sign design, layouts and how to balance an appealing design that is interesting to look at as well as delivering the message intended. Pierre will discuss lettering topics such as spacing, lettering styles and lettering do’s and don’ts. Currently, he writes a column for Sign Builder Illustrated, called “Hingst’s Sign Post”. For five years, wrote the “Vinyl Graphics” column in Signs of the Times. Hingst has also authored the book Vinyl Sign Techniques.

This seminar will cover tactics for growing your business by expanding your base of customers and selling more to current customers. The seminar will offer suggestions for uncovering new sales opportunities, qualifying leads, and maintaining your database of prospects. Layout and Design: learn the basics on proper spacing, using the right fonts, and how to redesign fonts. Discover how to use colour, 3D designs and different shapes and products in the background to “up sell” the customer an award winning design. Master the process, starting from a basic thumb nail drawing to an extreme design without the pitfalls. You will learn how to take a basic design and then “up sell” it for more profit, and in turn create a more satisfied customer. Bring a pen, pencil and paper because it will be a hands on session.

Finally, the workshop will review the techniques for safely removing applied graphics.
