Background

• Child malnutrition is major a problem experienced by purok Ilugin of Pinagbuhatan, Pasig– Due to the increased risk of disease susceptibility

in acquiring and proliferating infection

Rationale

• Need to change attitudes and perspectives of the community’s children– Preschool as an essential time to learn and develop

good dietary habits • Project to focus on 4-6 year olds – Activity books that inform/teach good nutrition and

incorporate writing and reading skills• Mainly aimed at the dev’t of health-oriented

perspective on nutrition at a young age as well as nurturing dev’t milestones

Goal

• Main goal: – Create new attitude about nutrition and healthy

living among a sample of children 4-6 y/o in the community through education and creativity

Objectives

• To create an activity book that will engage children into learning about nutrition as they learn about the basics of reading and language

• To empower teachers and parents as they teach their children about healthy habits and nutrition

• To provide a medium for communication between children and their community health workers and doctors about good nutrition and keeping a healthy lifestyle

Mechanics/Plan

• Mechanics– Illustrations for activity books to be obtained from the

net and modified to suit the Filipino culture and be reproduced

– Illustrations will be about healthy food starting with letters of the alphabet (to teach the child’s first word & associate it with healthy eating) & the major food groups

– A sample of 50 children will be given the first copies of the activity book to gauge their response and have time for evaluation

Resources

• The resources for the activity book would be firstly from the ASMPH community then hopefully from the whole Ateneo community as well– Collection of scrap paper from students of the ASMPH

or other members of the Ateneo community – Crayon donations from the Ateneo elementary school

• The Ilugin community would be encouraged to participate in providing recycled materials in order to make the project sustainable
