#12014 REVEREND GORDONMICHELS LADIES AUXILIARY

JOLIET

The Ladies Auxiliary of the ReverendGordon Michels Council of St. Paulthe Apostle Parish in Joliet, Illinois iscurrently sponsoring our “Change forLife” Drive. It is a fund raiser that wehave been doing for the last 5 years atSt. Paul’s and at St. Jude’s (also inJoliet) and have raised a total of morethan $25,000. We have donatedmainly to Birthright, but have do-nated to several other organizationsas well. Some of those are Deaf Apos-tolate, Day Break Shelter, AlternativeLife Styles, and Child Care Resourcesand Referral. Our mission with thisproject is to help women and childrenin our community who may be strug-gling for one reason or another. Theidea came to us from one of our mem-bers, Frances Seaton, who was intro-duced to this at another parish. Wehad been doing fashion shows beforeas our main fund raiser, but found wecould raise a lot more money withfewer costs this way. That way moreof the money we raise can go directlyto the charities.

#1025 CENTRALIA LADYKNIGHTS

The Centralia Lady Knights Auxil-iary assist the Knights of Columbusas well as helping with variousschool and parish activities by pro-viding spiritual support, membersvolunteer, and financial donations. Our main goal the past year hasbeen to help make life a little easierfor senior citizens. We have approximately 20 membersat any given time. Our fundraisersfor the past year was a “LadiesNight Out”, A “Soup and BuncoLuncheon, A “Christmas CookieSale”, A “Gift Certificate RaffleTree” and the one that made themost money was a “Gun Raffle”.Yes, we raffled a pistol and made$1,170.00 on it.

As far as donating all the money wemade the most unusual donationwas $100 to a funeral home to helpget a man buried. We donated to theFood Pantry, Relay for Life, Preg-nancy Center, Grandparents Rais-ing Grandchildren, Marion CountySenior Citizens. We also assist theschool and church with neededitems. We donated to a young manwho was going on a mission trip, purchased First Communion booksand gave a generous donation to asummer school lunch program. Inaddition we help with any churchmember or family that is goingthrough a crisis.

We assist the Knights with theirfundraisers and are there for themwhen they sponsor a meal.

Gay Quandt, Vice President

As well, next week we will be sponsor-ing a membership drive in conjunctionwith coffee and donuts after our 9:00a.m. service. Any Christian woman 18and older is invited to join ourgroup. Our monthly business meetingis held on the third Wednesday of eachmonth at one of the member’shouses. TAKE CARE OF YOURAMERICAN FLAG

It’s Your Duty

All citizens should know howto display their country’s flag, since owning a flag and dis-playing it properly are marksof patriotism and respect. Thefirst code on the proper displayof the U.S. flag was passed byCongress in 1942, and hasbeen amended several times. Most recently, it was changedto prohibit the displaying ofthe flag on the floor or ground.

The U.S. flag may be mended, dry cleaned or washed. An oldflag may be displayed as longas it is in respectable condi-tion. When a flag is no longerfit for display, it should be de-stroyed in a dignified manner~most commonly, by burning inprivate without ceremony.

Compliments of Senator KyleL. McCarter, 51st District
