    # Clients ILIAS 4.X

    In this tutorial you will learn how to add more clients to ILIAS 4.X on shared hosting that isusing cPanel.

    Install a 2nd client

    Ilias supports multiple sites with different database running on the same source code. Thisconcept is called clients.

    First we will need to setup a second database.

    Access your cPanel.

    Databases offer a method for managinglarge amounts of information easily over theweb. They are necessary to run many web -based applications such as bulletin boards,content management systems, online retailshops and learning management systems.

    To create the database: In the New Database field, type a name for the database. ClickCreate Database .

    Click Go Back .

    The new database will appear in the Current Databases table.

    After you create the database, you will needto add users and their privileges so that thedatabase can be filled and managed. Pleasenote that MySQL user accounts must becreated separately from mail and webadministrator accounts. To create a new user account:

    1.

    Under Add New User , enter ausername.

    2.

    Enter a password in thePassword field.

    3.

    Retype the password in the Password (Again) field.

    4.

    Click Create User .

    Click Go Back .

    The new user will appear in the Current Users table. Privileges define how the user isable to interact with the database. Forexample, they will determine whether or notthe user can add and delete information.

    To define a users privileges: 1.

    Under Add User to Database ,select a user from the User drop -down menu.

    2.

    From the Database drop -down menu, select thedatabase to which you wishto allow the user access.

    3.

    Click Add .

    From the MySQL Account Maintenance screen, select the privileges you wish togrant the user, or select ALL PRIVILEGES.Click Make Changes .

    Click Go Back .

    The new database with the assigned userwill appear in the Current Databases table.

    Open the ILIAS setup script in your web

    browser:http://www.yourserver.com/ilias/setup/setup.php. Login with the master password.

    Navigate to the List of Clients, and click onthe create new client button.

    You can run on one source multipledatabases, in ILIAS this is concepts is called aClient. Select the proper database type, asour hosting is running MySQL 5.0 we cankeep the defaults. Click save.

    Fill in the database settings, of the databaseyou created earlier and Click Save.

    Click Next to move to step 2.

    Since the database has allready beencreated, you must uncheck the CreateDatabase. Click Install Database.

    Click Next to move to step 4.

    The interface of ILIAS is available in many

    languages. Select the languages that youwant for this client. Click Next to move tostep 4.

    Fill in the required contact details.

    Click the save button.

    Click Next to move to step 5.

    You can optionally register your server withthe ILIAS open source community. Click save.

    Click finish setup.

    Click on the button list of clients.

    Click on the enable button to allow users toselect the client they want to connect to.

    After all steps are passed you may proceedto the ILIAS login, either using the [login] linkor by accessinghttp://www.yourserver.com/ilias/login.php

    Now the user can select the client he wants

    to connect to, alternatively you can supplythe client in the url using the client_id asparameter.
