For the first time in history, Poway hosted Mr. Titan, a talent and beauty pageant for male high school seniors. The event was brought to life by Nicole Foster for her senior project and aided by Bella Scuito of ASB. “After winning Miss Teen Poway in 2010, I thought it would be so much fun to give the boys an opportunity to do something similar,” Foster said. Foster encouraged seniors from all different walks of campus life to participate, including Luke Castor, Sean Clark, Richard Durr, Tyler Kasl, Josh Kennedy, Brandon Kohl, Nick Paris, Michael Parkes, Mac Pitts, and Aaron Shapiro. The competition included a question ses- sion, a talent portion, where the boys’ talents ranged from walking the runway, to dancing, with the night ending by each senior sporting his best spirit wear. Because the audience had the chance to vote at intermission, a “Crowd Favorite” was awarded to Nick Paris. His im- personation of Napoleon Dynamite dancing had the audience roaring with laughter. “I’m appreciative that I won crowd choice because it means a lot that my peers voted for me,” Nick Paris said. After the judges deliberation though, the title of Mr. Titan was awarded to Mac Pitts. During the talent section, Pitts showcased his rapping skills and even the most creative were impressed. “I put in the effort to win, but I definitely wasn’t expecting it. None of us really treated it like a competition, we just wanted to make it a good show,” Pitts said. “For boys that are seniors next year, par- ticipate in Mr. Titan! It’s so much fun,” Nick Paris said. The winner of the competition received two free Prom tickets along with a free Tux- edo rental for the night of Prom. All those that participated got the consolation prize of one free Prom ticket. 3 NEWS MARCH 30, 2012 Iliad for more stories go to www.powayiliad.com News In Brief LANIE HAUSNER Staff Writer MADISON CHAPMAN Business Manager LAURA FITZGERALD Staff Writer AVID teacher Sherry Lockie was awarded the title of Teacher of the Year for her ability to connect with students in both the classroom and the Titan Center.
