A Little Intro…
What is Information Literacy?
• “Information literacy is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning.” American Library Association, 2015
AASL
Information literacy has progressed from the simple
definition of using reference resources to find information. Multiple literacies, including
digital, visual, textual, and technological, have now
joined information literacy as crucial skills for this
century. (AASL, 2007)
IL & Georgia Standards of Excellence
Integration of Knowledge and Ideas/Research to Build and Present Knowledge/Comprehension and Collaboration : • Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented
in diverse formats and media (e.g., visually, quantitatively, as well as in words) in order to address a question or solve a problem.
• Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources; assess the credibility of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and providing basic bibliographic information for sources.
• Analyze the purpose of information presented in diverse media and formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively, orally) and evaluate the motives (e.g., social, commercial, political) behind its presentation
