VILLA E COLLEZIONE PANZA Circondata da un magnifico giardino all'italiana, Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza di Biumo èstata costruita alla metà del XVIII secolo per volontà del marchese Paolo Antonio Mena-foglio e ampliata in epoca neoclassica dall'architetto Luigi Canonica, su incarico del ducaPompeo Litta Visconti Arese. La villa è celebre nel mondo per la collezione d'arte con-temporanea che Giuseppe Panza di Biumo vi ha raccolto a partire dagli anni '50. Nei sa-loni e nelle grandi scuderie, sono oggi esposte oltre cento opere di artisti contemporanei,oltre a ricchi arredi del periodo che va dal XVI al XIX secolo e ad un'importante raccolta diarte africana e precolombiana.

Surrounded by a magnificent Italian garden, Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza in Biumo wasbuilt in the mid-XVIII century by Marquis Paolo Antonio Menafoglio and extended in theneo-classic period by architect Luigi Canonica, commissioned by Duke Pompeo Litta Vi-sconti Arese. The villa is famous throughout the world for the collection of contemporaryart that Giuseppe Panza di Biumo began creating in the 1950s. The halls and the huge sta-bles today exhibit more than one hundred works by contemporary artists, as well as richXVI-XIX century furnishings and an important collection of African and pre-Columbian art.

VILLA DELLA PORTA BOZZOLO Sorta nel Cinquecento come villa di campagna, divenne poi nobile dimora di rappresen-tanza e fu arricchita, nella prima metà del XVIII secolo, da un imponente giardino all'italiana,tra le più maestose e armoniche creazioni di architettura verde oggi superstiti in Italia. Gliambienti interni conservano uno dei cicli decorativi più sofisticati e unitari del Settecentolombardo, attribuibile prevalentemente alla bottega del varesino Magatti. Il corpo della villaè affiancato da interessanti rustici, fra i quali stalle, scuderie, cantine, granai ed un monu-mentale torchio.

Built in the 1500s as a country villa, it later became a representative noble residence andwas embellished, in the first half of the XVIII century, with an imposing Italian garden, oneof the most majestic and harmonious landscape creations today surviving in Italy. The in-teriors preserve one of the most sophisticated and unitary decorative cycles of the Lom-bard 1700s, essentially attributable to Varese workshop of Magatti. The body of the villa isflanked by interesting farm buildings, including cattle sheds, stables, cellars, hay lofts anda monumental wine press.

MONASTERO DI TORBA Immerso nei verdi boschi del Varesotto, ai piedi del parco archeologico di Castelseprio, ilcomplesso monumentale di Torba è testimone di una vicenda più che millenaria. Avam-posto militare del tardo impero romano, poi in mano ai Goti e ai Longobardi (con torre ecinta difensiva del secolo V e VI), Torba fu quindi pio luogo di preghiera e di lavoro di reli-giose benedettine (con chiesa dei secoli VIII-XIII e sede monastica). Abbandonato dallemonache nel 1453, fu successivamente adibito a cascina rurale. Nella torre sono conser-vati rari e importanti affreschi della fine dell'VIII secolo.

Set in the green woods near Varese, at the feet of the Castelseprio Archaeological Park,this monumental complex in Torba bears witness to history going back more than a mil-lennium. An outpost of the late Roman Empire, and later under the Goths and Longobards(with a tower and defensive walls dating back to the V and VI centuries), Torba later be-came a pious place of prayer and work for Benedictine nuns (with a church dating to theVIII-XIII centuries and monastic centre). Abandoned by the nuns in 1453, it was later usedas a farm. The tower boasts rare and important frescoes from the end of the VIII century.

Il Golf a Varese nacque nel 1897, vantando così una tradizione di lunga data in terra varesina. Fu ideato come un percorso di 9 buche nel parco di Villa Recalcati, sede dellaProvincia di Varese, ai tempi il Grand Hotel Excelsior. Successivamente, dopo un brevetrasferimento su un più ampio percorso nella pittoresca Valganna, si stabilì a Luvinatenel 1934. Il prestigioso Golf Club Varese ha quindi oggi la propria sede presso un anticoMonastero Benedettino in cui lo sport, la natura e lʼarte si incontrano in unʼincantevolearmonia. Lʼopera muraria, costituita da ciottoli e conci di varie dimensioni, ha le corniciravvivate in cotto a denti di sega, perfettamente secondo i moduli dellʼarchitettura romanico-lombarda, ed un chiostro quattrocentesco a doppio ordine di archi muove dallabase del campanile. Numerosi affreschi decorano le maestose pareti.Lʼattuale percorso, ampliato a 18 buche verso la metà degli anni ʼ50, è un par 72 moltoondulato e ad ogni buca, immersa tra il verde di piante secolari, offre scorci di incom-parabile bellezza panoramica, che raggiungono la Catena del Monte Rosa, i Laghi Maggiore, di Varese e di Monate, oltre che al maestoso Sacro Monte ed al prestigiosoCampo dei Fiori.Dal punto di vista agonistico, il Golf Club di Varese rientra certo tra i più titolati nel nostroPaese, sia a livello di squadre che nei singoli; per questo motivo un Open dʼItalia, garenazionali e finali di circuiti si sono svolte su questo campo che presenta alcune difficoltàinteressanti per golfisti di ogni elevazione. La buca più suggestiva è la 10, una par 4 in discesa il cui orizzonte sfocia su un ramodel lago e sulle Alpi. Altre buche da affrontare con rispetto sono la 11, par 4 dog-leg a destra e la 16, par 4 dog-leg a sinistra in salita. Particolare attenzione va dedicata anchead alcuni green a doppio livello e con delicate pendenze.Negli anni più recenti importanti interventi di ristrutturazione e di restauro hanno consentito un miglioramento della ricettività e del comfort della Club House, creando cosìun ambiente estremamente piacevole allʼinterno di una struttura unica nel suo genere.Anche sul campo sono stati apportati sensibili miglioramenti, come lʼintroduzione di unsistema di irrigazione computerizzato in grado di garantire un terreno di gioco ottimalein termini di qualità in tutte le stagioni dellʼanno in uno dei campi più prestigiosi dʼItalia.

Golf in the area of Varese has a long history and an old tradition, in falt people began playins in 1897. Several frescoses decorate the magnificent walls.The present course, enlarged to 18 holes during the 50s is a very undupating par 72and the holes are surrounded by secular trees; golfers can admire sights of breathtakingbeauty such as the Mount Rosa Chain, Lake Maggiore, the lake of Varese, the lake ofMonate, Grand Sacro Monte and glamorous Campo dei Fiori.From competitorsʼ point of view the Golf Club is one of the most important courses in ourcountry, both for teams and single players. Thatʼs why an Italian open, some domesticcompetitions and final circuits took places in this course, which has interesting difficul-ties for players of any level.The most evocative hole is number 10, a downhill par whose view shows an arm of thelake and of the alps. There are other holes to face carefully: n° 11 and n° 16.Golfer should pay attention to some double – level greens with slight slopes.In recent years the Club has been renovated and restored, it has become more comfortable, it can welcome more guests and the atmosphere created is extremely pleasant inside a unique place.The course itself has been improved: a computerized irrigation system has been installed so that golfers can find a high – quality course all year round.

Costantino Veniani, pasticcere di alta scuola lombarda, nel 1878 ideò dei dolci leggeri, soavi e fragranti e li chiamò Brutti e Buoni. Conquistarono subito anche i palati più esigenti e furono apprezzati da personaggiillustri come Giosuè Carducci, Giuseppe Verdi e la Regina Elena di Savoia. Ancora oggi questi dolcetti vengono prodotti dai suoi discendenti presso la PasticceriaVeniani di Gavirate, secondo la ricetta originale.

Costantino Veniani, pastry chef of the finest Lombardy tradition, in 1878 created anew kind of light, sweet, and crunchy cookie that he named Brutti e Buoni.Brutti e Buoni won immediately even the most discriminating taste and were loved byfamous artists and nobleman, like the poet Giosueʼ Carducci, the composer GiuseppeVerdi and Queen Elena of Savoia.Still nowadays these sweets are prepared in Veniani Patisserie by Costantinoʼs descendants following the original recipe.

Le Sciovie Forcora, comune di Veddasca, allʼestremo nord della Provincia di Varese,sono il luogo ideale per trascorrere un piacevole week-end.La stazione sciistica invernale è costituita da uno skilift di 980 m di lunghezza che,partendo dal Passo a 1179 m.s.l.m., raggiunge la vetta del Monte Cadrigna a 1304m.s.l.m.. Vi sono presenti anche due piste baby servite da una manovia della lun-ghezza di circa 300 m e da un tapis roulant di circa 150 m.Il Passo Forcora offre inoltre due piste da bob, di cui una servita da un tapis roulant,noleggio attrezzatura sci e snowboard per adulti e bambini, noleggio bob e padelle,noleggio sdraio. Una scuola di sci e snowboard per adulti e bambini offre lezione singole e/o collettive per il raggiungimento di qualsiasi livello.Come raggiungerci: Da Varese si procede in direzione Luino, arrivati a Maccagno, superato il ponte sul fiume Giona, imboccare la deviazione a destra (SP5) per la ValVeddasca, il valico di Indemini e il Lago Delio.
