Barbara Hill-Volero and her husband Bill Volero will take us on an exploration of the influences and connections between Santa Barbara and Italy and the beginnings of our town’s own ‘Little Italy’. Barbara spent her career in healthcare and also worked in publishing. marketing, and political advocacy. She now writes her own blog “L’Olivo” in English and Italian. Bill, an Italian-American on both sides of his family, was raised in Connecticut. He is a psychiatrist by profession and has practiced in Santa Barbara since 2000. He is a docent at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.

Luncheon with UNICO National President Dominick Nicastro
UNICO Members joined our Executive Board for lunch with Dominick Nicastro and his wife Alina at the Coral Casino last month. Dominick is UNICO National’s 94th President and spoke to us about some of the things National is currently focusing on. Topics included programs to reach out and involve young members into our club thorough the “Aces” and “Youth” Memberships as well as fight on the east coast with the NEA Teachers Union that is working to eliminate Columbus Day. Sneak Peek! I could not help myself – I had to include a picture of this beautiful pizza oven in this month’s newsletter. My mother (Theresa) and I visited with Giuseppe Crisa of Forno Classico in his new pizza oven factory this week! This gorgeous pizza oven pictured here with Giuseppe is just one of many creations that are available. Along with more manufacturing space he will have a showroom and kitchen and hopefully pizza cooking classes. UNICO Santa Barbara Chapter needs your help!!
We are looking for raffle items donated by our members for our dinner meetings. If you have a favorite bottle of wine you would like to share – or a gift certificate from your business or anything else you think our members would enjoy please let us know. We have endeavored to keep our cost of dining at the Coral Casino down – and when they raised price the Board opted to waive the small fee we would normally charge in addition to what the Casino charges for the meal. The only revenue now generated by the dinner meetings comes from the raffle – which helps pay for dinner for the speaker and other costs. Anything you would like to contribute would be greatly appreciated! Please contact one of the board members on the last page if you would like to help with a raffle item and thank you in advance for your generosity!!
