description

Ikonoklash is a multidisciplinary project in the field of contemporary art, web and moving image. On the invitation of the Centro Cultural de Lagos and as part of the Allgarve'10 programme, it offers a reflection on the role of the internet and its impact on the creation of images and art icons. This event includes a web 2.0 portal, www.ikonoklash.com, with an important social dimension, doubling up physically with an exhibition at the C.C.L where artists/creators present media art works against the backdrop of seething images. A seminar will also be organized in conjunction with the University of the Algarve, in addition to an educational service, in which the common element will be the internet and its “iconoclastic” dimension [understood here in the sense of the destruction of icons]. The project’s title combines this word, abbreviated here to “Ikono”, with the idea of impact/collision, in “Klash”. Ikonoklash reflects on the role of the internet as a central element and essential factor in “iconoclasm”. The internet is seen here as a “destroyer” or, to use a neologism/euphemism, something that accelerates the mutation of aesthetic concepts. It is undoubtedly one of the main influences/driving forces in contemporary art, both in the creation of moving images, and as a foundation and technological tool, as well as offering a point of communication and a social, aesthetic and political forum in the landscape of art produced today. This project is curated by Dinis Guarda / Número.
