For our second quarterly newsletter, I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that MARAKEZ won the Cityscape Award for Best Built Commercial Project in Egypt for the company’s flagship development ‘Mall of Arabia Phase II’, also known as “The Expansion”.

Besides “The Expansion” and Cairo, we’re expanding quite literally beyond the city to meet the needs of areas that have been underserved yet have significant economic potential. We’re pleased to announce that we are currently in the final development phase of the first world-standard mall in all of Egypt’s secondary governorates with Mall of Tanta. This first-of-its-kind mall in the area will serve the 6 million residents of the Gharbeya governorate. Due to open in August, the mall will include an entertainment hub featuring the first multi-screen cinema in the Delta region, children’s indoor entertainment area, a hyper market and around 100 retail outlets to satisfy the needs of the entire family.

In addition, we have recently acquired a 47-acre plot of land from the Internal Trade Development Authority (ITDA) in the governorate of Dakahlia with plans to develop a new world-standard commercial mall in Mansoura City that will serve as a regional retail, dining and entertainment hub for approximately seven million residents.

As for our residential projects, we will be delivering AEON Courtyards a full six months ahead of schedule in

Q4 2019. Strategically located in the heart of West Cairo with easy access to main roads and highways, our first residential project ‘AEON ‘represents a new and compelling living experience, accentuated by a diverse range of services and facilities to achieve an optimal balance between the comfort and tranquility of suburban life and excitement of modern living. We look forward to welcoming AEON’s first homeowners.

We got the chance to chat with Mohamed Badr, LC Waikiki’s Egypt Country Manager, to get some insights on the development and expansion of the brand after its solid collaboration with MARAKEZ. With a new store opening in our new mall of Tanta, it was important for us to hear what brands look for and consider when big business opportunities present themselves.

With expertise in running 24 active stores in Egypt, LC Waikiki is excited to open their second store in the Mall of Tanta, making it their 25th store in Egypt. They believe a successful mall is a catalyst to a successful store and vice versa. Badr explained how LC Waikiki is eager about being a part of MARAKEZ’s expansion in the new Mall of Mansoura, as a store’s location is a crucial factor to a brand’s success in exposure and sales. A store should be in the mainstream of the shopping mall for great visibility and accessibility. Without a doubt, they believe the store layout should be comfortable and appealing to visitors to maintain the traffic coming in.

After the CIB PSA World Championship held at Mall of Arabia, we had a little chat with the world’s #1 champion, Ali Farag. Farag has played over 85 tournaments and won 17 titles steadily.

“The tournament was special on so many fronts. Let alone playing in Egypt amongst your beloved home crowd”, he said. “Being amongst the top eight players of the world is something I’m very proud of” he added. He believes it wouldn’t have been possible without the undeniable support of his wife Nour El Tayeb, his coaches, elder brothers, parents, his mentor Karim Darwish and his sponsors. “It is Wael, my elder brother who was the main catalyst for my success.”, he added. At age 16, Farag decided to quit squash after facing difficulties juggling between his IGCSE exams and his beloved sport. His brother Wael kept him going, stood by his side and became his coach.

“The cheering voices of the fans help me turn a losing game into a gain and eventually winning” he said. Farag considers every moment he participates in is a blessing and a prestigious moment because he knows how many people have worked hard to get him to where he is today. Like all winners who have mastered the art of humility and grace in victory, Farag admitted that he loves learning as it motivates him to utilize his capabilities and continue to get better. He believes the true essence of success is to fall in love with the game. “Embrace every moment and know that there will be rough times.”, he said hoping to make that message resonate with young players and also make a difference in the sport that goes beyond getting medals and winning championships.

This year, IKEA is opening doors to all its dear customers with a store situated in Mall of Arabia. If you’re a resident of 6th of October, Zayed or any surrounding area; that’s good news for you!

IKEA’s first small-format store is meant to help all shoppers and furniture lovers purchase items they want delivered to their homes. It will offer services like: shipping, delivery and assembly, helping with financing and online purchasing through the website as well. It’s expected to be open next September 2019.

The move to Mall of Arabia comes with IKEA’s strategy to reach out for the many people and be accessible to everyone.
