Oinala. Oct. 14.—The following: is the verdict in tho cr"e of the quadruijlc murder near Fuiiertoa, Naucc Coi.n.y, in this State.

" We beh'cTC that H. A. 6 . Baird. Hugh Mair. Harry Perceval, " M r s . Harry Perceval, and her one-y-'i^rold child cam:^ to thj'r-" d e a t h feloniously, Sunday crening, September 2Sth, .-.nd "Monday. September 2Jth, 18S4: and that they came to tilt ir " d e a t h by wounds from weapons in the hands of one Gco:g3 "Fumivall .—S. E E N K T . "

The details of the murder, as broufrht forth by the inrc: '-gation, are as follows:—Furnivall and Mair went to Edmord-son's, Sunday, and from there Furnivnll and one ci' tho Edmondson boys wtn t to a pamt office a few miles distant, and Mair and another Edmondson went to Ci;a'ke. Fumivall v.'ciit to Edmondson's first, and was mad because Mair had not g.it back; it being Mair's v.-ork to do the cooking. Mair returaed soon aud enquired if Furnivall had gone home. On being told

that ho had, he hurried home, saying George will be mad "because I am not there to cook supper. A quarrel t o l c place upon Mair's return, and ended in Mair not getting PumivaU's supper, and Furnivall, in his rage, loaded his gun and shot Mair while he was in bed.

Baird had been in the habit of coming every night from Perceval's and bathing in a creek near the house. He generaiiy went in and had a chat with Mair. It is supposed tha t he carried out his usual habit, Monday night, and discovered Mair's dead body, and was shot and throv.n into tbe creek by Perceval*, on the principle that "dead men tell no tales. ' Furnivall knew that enquiry after Baird would be made upon Perceval's return, and as it was impossible to get far until the train left Fullerton, Tuesday morning, he waited for Perceval s return from Fullerton, Monday night, and when he went for hay for his horses, shot him down, and ended his foul crime by shooting Mrs. Perceval, with whom he had previously had trouble. After murdering Mrs. Perceval, he broke open the cash box and went through Mrs. Perceval's pocket book. I t is not thought that he could have secured over SlOO, and this, with .$98 obtained at the First National (where he had left a note as security a week previous), is thought to be tho only money he had with him. The shoes Furnivall had on on Monday, when A. H. Bird was there, were found covered with blood. The remains of his overalls were found in the stove, where ho burned them. A paper was found on which was written, " wait "unt i l to-morrow night, p.nd I will see what my chances a re . " Funivall's best friends now admit his guUt. The testimony taken by the Coroner's jury fiUs nearly two hundred pages.

Mr. F rank Tanner ar r ived in th i s ci ty Wednesday evening, and we unders tand pronounces t he despatcl i in t ho " T r i b t m e " mainly correct,—Owatonna Journod, Oct. 17.

Special Inquiry. Officers in charge of Sub-Districts will cause in

quiry to be made with a view of ascertaining if James Mann is at present in this Colony. Description—slight, age about 23 years, 5ft. 2in. high, dq^k complexion, regular features, with a little color in the cheeks, dark eyes, thin black moustache and hair; dresses neatly; walks with a long swinging stride. Native of Manchester, England. Arrived at Sydney from London per s.s. "Ligur ia" on the 15th'July, 1883, and followed the occupation of an ironmonger's assistant until November following, at which time he started in business as aerated water manufacturer. Left Sydney on the 6th March, 1884, and was heard of the following month in Perth, Fremantle, or Albany. There is no record of his having arrived in this Colony by the name of Mann, and as he levanted from Sydney with about £300, thereby defrauding his creditors, it is very probable that if he is here he has assumed another name. Result of inquiries to be forwarded to Detective Office, Perth. ^'/^_

Special Inquiry. OfiBcers in charge of Sub-Districts will cause in

quiry to be made with a view of ascertaining if James Maun is at present in this Colony. Description—slight, age about 23 years, Sft. 2in. high, dark complexion, regular features, with a little color in the cheeks, dark eyes, thin black moustache and hair; dresses neatly; walks with a long swinging stride. Native of Manchester, England. Arrived at Sydney from London per s.s. "Ligur ia" on the ISth July, 1883, and followed the occupation of an ironmonger's assistant until November following, at which time he started in business as aerated water manufacturer. Left Sydney on the 6th March, 1884, and was heard of the following month in Perth, Fremantle, or Albany. There is no record of his having arrived in this Colony by the name of Mann, and as he levanted from Sydney •with about £300, thereby defrauding his creditors, it is very probable that if he is here he has assumed another name. Result of inquiries to be forwarded to Detective Office, Perth. «V 6«.
