ndA few days ago the 22 year of the foundation of this Institute was celebrated. At the beginning of 1989 Eduardo Backhoff Escudero and Edna Luna Serrano, inspired by the model of CISE, UNAM, proposed the creation of a Centre of Studies and Educational Development of UABC that would have as purpose to identify, explain and give answer to the issues and requirements of the educational work of this University. The proposal was presented to the rectory and it worked as the foundation to create the current Institute of Research and Educational Development (IIDE); this

thproposal was approved on August 24 , 1990 by the University Council.

The IIDE officially began its activities in February, 1991, under the leadership

of Prof. Horacio Gonzalez, based in Campus Mexicali and its academic staff

distributed in Ensenada and Tijuana Campuses. After operating a year

without Director, Rector Luis Llorens Baez named Prof. Eduardo Backhoff

Escudero as Institute Director in August, 1993, who served ten years in this

charge. Starting 2003 Dr. Graciela Cordero Arroyo served as Director of the

IIDE, position that she occupied until December, 2011.

22 years after its creation the IIDE has turned into an academic unit that has

national and international recognition for its orientation to the generation,

application, spreading, divulgation, and transference of scientific and

technological knowledge in educational matters. With the projects and

activities that we develop we are not only contributing to the educational

development of UABC, Baja California or the country, but also to the training

of research professionals with a high level of specialization.

The recognition made by CONACYT to the quality of the Educational Master and Doctorate programs, the degree of consolidation that shows its lines of investigation and of its academic staff, the high level of habilitation and production of its academic community, the mobility and academic exchange that its researchers and students have, the participation of its researchers in several national and international academic networks, the publication of the Electronic Magazine of Educational Research (REDIE, by its Spanish initials) and its integration to the catalogue of Mexican magazines of scientific and technological research of CONACYT, as well as the relationship of the IIDE with several important institutions and organizations of public, social and private sectors, and with areas and academic units of UABC through project development, counseling, courses and educational services are part of the main achievements and activities of the academic community that we integrate as Institute.

That is why we proudly celebrate the first 22 years of the creation of our dear Institute. Our

appreciation to those that in some manner have contributed with their work, talent, dedication and

commitment so today we get to be in a privileged place in the world of educational research.

As part of the activities scheduled for incoming students of the Master in Educational Sciences, last August 6th and 7th the course “Introduction to measurement and development of tests” was offered, taught by Dr. Coral Gonzalez Barbera, professor of the Education Faculty from the Complutense University of Madrid.
