Sector of Catalysis• Study of the correlation between structure, surface state and catalytic activity, aimed to the

synthesis of novel catalysts and catalyst supports with controlled properties. Investigation of the catalytic reactions' kinetics aimed to optimization of the industrial catalytic processes and to development of the new, environmentally and energetically preferable processes

• Comprehensive monitoring the catalytic processes progress in the domestic industry and environmental protection, and

• Development of the specific methods for testing and quality control of catalysts.

Sector of Chemical Engineering and Inorganic TechnologyWithin its activities this department embraces and develops the basic

engineering and development research in the following fields:• Transport phenomena of mass and heat transfer.

The research efforts in this field are oriented to the gas, liquid and solid particles interaction in a fluidized and a spouted fluid bed. The results of these

researches have been successfully applied in the semi-industrial pilot plants in the field of drying organic and inorganic suspensions

and solution; in baking and drying of the granulated materials, and in the catalytic combustion of waste gases.

• Separation processes. A technique of reverse osmosis has been applied in purifying

water for obtaining bacteriologicaly and chemically reliable waters for infusion and injection solutions, for hemodialysis.

This technique has been developed at an industrial level.
