GRACIAS A TODOS AQUELLOS QUIENES HAN RESPONDIDO A LA INVITACIÓN DE LA CARTA ANUAL PARROQUIAL 2018.

We financially support our parish from 2 principal sources: our regular Sunday Sacrificial Offering (the offering we make through our envelopes) and the annual parish letter. (Other sources are donations, fundraisers, and offerings made for baptisms, marriages, and funerals.) In October 2018, a total of 825 letters were mailed. As of this week (Dec. 10) 104 households have responded with pledges/contributions totaling $24,380.

+ Of special note are the 12 leaders in the Spanish speaking community, who ran a successful pre-annual letter campaign in August and September. The leadership personally invited 71 families to prayerfully consider an offering to their parish. There were 53 households who responded, with a total offering of $12,020.

+ Apoyamos financieramente a nuestra parroquia a través de 2 fuentes principales: nuestra ofrenda de sacrificio del domingo regular (la ofrenda que hacemos a través de nuestros sobres) y la carta parroquial anual. (Otras fuentes son donaciones, eventos para recaudar fondos y ofrendas hechas por bautismos, matrimonios y funerales). En octubre de 2018, un total de 825 cartas fueron enviadas por correo. Hasta esta semana (10 de diciembre) son 104 los hogares que han respondido con promesas/contribuciones de $24,380.

+ De especial atención son los 12 líderes de la comunidad hispanohablante, que realizaron una exitosa campaña antes de la carta anual en agosto y septiembre. El líderes invitaron personalmente a 71 familias a considerar con espíritu de oración una ofrenda a su parroquia. Hubo 53 hogares que respondieron, para una ofrenda total de $12,020.

Gaudete Week - 3rd Week of Advent

Gaudete from the Latin, to rejoice. The spirit of joy that begins this week comes from the words of Paul, “The Lord is near.” This joyful spirit is marked by the third candle of our Advent wreath, which is rose colored, and the rose colored vestments often used at the Eucharist. Faith and generosity overcome impossibility. Poverty and persecution reveal glory.

We prepare this week by feeling the joy. We move through this week feeling a part of the waiting world that rejoices because our longing has prepared us to believe the reign of God is close at hand. And so we consciously ask that God prepare our hearts and remove the sadness that hinders us from feeling the joy and hope which his presence will give us.

The late Thomas Merton, an American and Trappist monk of Gethsemane Monastery, Kentucky, whose spiritual writings have been a gift for so many people, wrote: “You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.”

Advent is the invitation that God makes to us to embrace the present moment with courage, faith, and hope that God is doing and will do something new with the coming of Christ. Sometimes we respond to changes and challenges with anger and resentment. When we hang on to the offense and cultivate resentment, we run a risk of building a defensive wall around ourselves. While this wall can defend us from being hurt again, it can also cause us to miss out on a deeper healing experience with God. Our attachment to anger and resentment can close that door to a freeing, healing, and transforming experience like Advent.

When asked by the crowds “what should we do?,” to prepare for the Messiah, the Christ, John the Baptist invited the people to detachment themselves from their ways of doing things. Oh God, give us strength to face what lies ahead and hope to sustain us. We may not know where we are headed, but we know that you are with us wherever we go. May we accompany you with joy. Amen.

Semana Gaudete - 3ra Semana de Adviento

“Gaudete” es latín y significa Alégrense. El Espíritu de alegría que comienza esta semana proviene de las palabras de Pablo, "el Señor está cerca". Este espíritu gozoso está marcado por la tercera vela de nuestra Corona de Adviento, que es de color rosa. La fe y la generosidad superan la imposibilidad. La pobreza y la persecución revelan gloria.

Nos preparamos esta semana sintiendo la alegría. Nos movemos a través de esta semana sintiendo que somos parte del mundo que espera y que se regocija porque nuestro anhelo nos prepara para creer que el Reino de Dios está cerca. Así que conscientemente pedimos que Dios prepare nuestros corazones y elimine la tristeza que nos impide sentir el gozo y la esperanza que su presencia nos dará.

El difunto monje, Thomas Merton, un monje estadounidense y trapense del monasterio de Getsemaní, Kentucky, cuyos escritos espirituales han sido un regalo para mucha gente, escribió: "No necesitas saber exactamente lo que está sucediendo, o dónde va todo. Lo que se necesita es reconocer las posibilidades y los desafíos que ofrece el momento presente, y abrazarlos con valentía, fe y esperanza." El Adviento es la invitación que Dios nos hace para abrazar el momento presente con valentía, fe y esperanza de que Dios está haciendo y hará algo nuevo con la venida de Cristo.

A veces respondemos a los cambios y desafíos con enojo y resentimiento. Cuando nos aferramos a la ofensa y cultivamos el resentimiento, corremos el riesgo de construir un muro defensivo alrededor de nosotros mismos. Si bien este muro puede defendernos de ser herido de nuevo, también puede hacernos perder una experiencia de curación más profunda con Dios. Nuestro apego a la ira y el resentimiento puede cerrar esa puerta a una experiencia liberadora, sanadora y transformadora como el Adviento.

Cuando se le preguntó a la multitudes "¿qué debemos hacer?", para prepararnos para el Mesías, el Cristo, Juan el Bautista invitó al pueblo a distanciarse de sus formas de hacer las cosas. Oh Dios, danos fuerzas para enfrentar lo que está por delante y esperanza para sostenernos. Tal vez no sepamos adónde nos dirigimos, pero sabemos que tu estás con nosotros donde quiera que vayamos. Te acompañaremos con alegría. Amén.
