MISSION CO-OP COLLECTION July 9 / 10

Chad Ribordy Executive Director, Lay Mission-Helpers

The Mission Co-op special collection at the Masses on July 9-10 will benefit the Lay Mission-Helpers Association. Founded in 1955, the Lay Mission-Helpers Association trains, sends and supports lay people (single, married couples, families) to serve in overseas Catholic mission dioceses for a minimum of 3 years. They serve in a professional capacity in areas such as health, education, engineering, etc., and witness their faith by how they live their lives. Chad Ribordy, who will be speaking at all of the Masses for the LMH, served for 12 years with his wife and children in Brazil. Chad is currently LMH’s Executive Director. Thank you for your generosity.

Feast of Our Lady of Refuge ~ Tuesday July 5 Our Lady of Refuge was declared Patroness of the Californians by the first Bishop of Baja California in 1843 at Santa Clara Mission in California. The Bishop declared "“If through the centuries this most worthy Mother of God has shown goodness and compassion to all peoples and nations… will she not do likewise for those peoples who bind themselves to her as their refuge and special patroness?". In 1982 the Feast was moved to July 5 by request of the California Conference of Bishops. Celebrate this Feast day by attending daily Mass at 7 AM or 8:30 AM or by saying a rosary to Our Lady of Refuge.

Confused by the Bible? Can’t make sense of some of the stories? Learn the real STORY of the Bible and how the books all fit together into a beautiful picture that points to Jesus. Presenter Jeff Cavins uses storytelling and humor to make the Bible come alive. Our parish will begin Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible on Wednesday, July 13 from 7 – 8:30 PM for 8 weeks. For more information or to sign up, contact Patty at 714-842-3000 x25 or [email protected]

We hear the Psalms read or sung at every Mass between the first and second readings, but do we

understand their significance? The Psalms are at the heart of the Bible. They are prayers from God that help us learn to pray. The Holy Spirit inspired them.

Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them, as did our Blessed Mother. These sacred hymns become our heartfelt

response to God’s loving and wondrous deeds for us. Their words captivate the imagination and draw us into a

deeply personal encounter with God.

Join us for Psalms: The School of Prayer beginning Monday, July 11 from 7 - 9 PM and continuing every

Monday for 11 weeks. For more information or to register for the study, call Patty Ledezma at 714-842-3000 x25 or via

email: [email protected]

The words and gestures of the Mass will be seen in a new light, leading you to a more meaningful, more frui ul worship experience.

Padre Sergio Ramos

Rummage Sale Success

Our parishioners are just amazing…Thank you so very much for the: ♦ Hundreds of families who donated quality items for sale. ♦ 45-55 volunteers each day that tirelessly helped. ♦ Knights of Columbus members heavy lifting and security. ♦ Core volunteer team of about a dozen that worked on average ten to

twelve hours each day. ♦ Service to at least 1,000 families and the needy of our community on selling days. ♦ The ripple of what we did in OC goes far beyond...

with the woman who bought bags and bags of clothes that she and her church will send to Africa...

the police officer and wife who did the same for Mexico… the ladies who filled their van for the Indian communities... and the parishioner who filled her Jeep to take clothes up to the Red Cross at Lake Isabel to help the

200 families who lost their homes to the wildfire. ♦ Raising a $19,500 significant amount of funds to support future Parish ministries. It was a joy and honor to work side by side with all of you. I’m so proud of our collective efforts and the results. The blessings of this rummage sale ministry are far greater than I could have imagined!

Blessings, ~Kathy Faith
