St. Vincen de Paul Catholic Church

April 8, 2018 Iglesia Católica de San Vicente de Paul

So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” Ten disciples in the upper room encountered the Risen Lord. Thomas didn’t. What was the difference between his experience and theirs? They stayed together. Thomas had chosen to go his own way. We don’t know why Thomas wasn’t around when Jesus showed up the first time. All we know is that he was with the community the second time around. Togetherness comes early for some of us, and it’s harder for those who are more naturally loners. Yet the ideal of Church is only attainable in community. We have come together, know each other, celebrate and suffer as one, take responsibility for our sisters and brothers. When we do these things, we too will see the Lord. If we insist on going it alone, our faith may more and more resemble our own reflection. What’s the best part of being Church to you? What’s the most challenging part?

A message from Fr. Heuberger / Mensaje del Padre Heuberger

Second Sunday of Easter The Lord’s appearance to Thomas is one of the images of Eastertime. All of the disciples had to come to know the Lord in faith. Each of the disciples would have had a different experience of the Risen Lord. They had their own particular way of coming to faith, as ours is different as well. Thomas said: “My Lord and My God.” Feast of the Annunciation—April 9th This is the first Christian feast of Mary to be celebrated. In the early Church the conception of Christ, the creation of the world, and the resurrection were all celebrated on one Sunday. It is more than counting nine months from one point to another point. The Annunciation reflects and reveals the goodness and love of God. Divine Mercy Sunday The feast of Divine Mercy is observed on the first Sunday after Easter. The mercy of God is one of the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit. The mercy of God is one of the most personable and intimate things God does to us and for us. The efforts for peace in the world relies on the mercies of God. Pastoral Council Meeting Thursday this week at 7 pm. New, old, and unfinished business, Commission Reports, first look at Parish and School budgets, comments on Lent, Holy Week, Easter activities and Liturgies. All parishioners are invited to attend. Gracie Rivera is chair. Thanks and Thank You The devoted season of Lent, the beauty of Holy Week and Easter was the work and effort of many parishioners. Thanks to the various liturgical ministers, readers, ushers, servers, choirs, Altar Society, and those who cleaned and decorated the Church. The Parish relies on the willingness and involvement of many to make this all happen. Donation The Parish has received a bequest from the Will of Robert Kovarik. It is a generous amount and represents his love and devotion to St. Vincent de Paul Parish and School, $49,000 at this time, perhaps more later. The money is not restricted, but these kinds of gifts are often used for capital projects or special projects. Please think of Robert and remember him in your prayers.

Have a Blessed Week. Sheila, Janette & Yadira

Registration Forms were sent home last week to ALL students in the program. It is recommended that children attend Religious Education Classes from 1st grade through 8th grade and continue the four years of high school. This gives the children a FIRM foundation in the faith. Sacraments are supplemental to the classes and occur while the children are learning what it means to be Catholic in today's world. Please, please, please understand that your children DO NOT GRADUATE once they have received the sacraments. It is very important that they continue in the Religious Education program. Thank You for bringing in your remaining payments for this year. Please continue using the offering envelopes each week. First Communion Testing will be April 16 and 17. If your child does not have the book, they will not be able to pass the test. If you have not brought in a copy of your child's Baptism Certificate, we need them as soon as possible. Registration for NEW students will open on Monday, April 16th. Please stop by our office, behind the school gym, to fill out the forms. We are requesting a $20 per child fee at the time of registration. This will be deducted from the total cost of the tuition. A copy of the child's Baptismal Certificate will also be collected at this time. Get your forms in early to help us plan for next year.
