Rod & Reel – One Person – One Fish

• The ANGLER must hook, fight & boat the fish without the aid of any other person or device except:• Once the fish is hooked, ANGLER must remove rod

from the rod holder as quickly as possible• Use of flying gaffs, fighting chair, rod belt, harness

or waist gimbal permitted• Gimbal must be free swinging

• “Mate(s)” may grasp the LEADER to land/gaff the fish

• “Mate(s)” ,without touching the line, may clear obstacles to passage of the line thru the rod guides

• The following acts disqualify a catch: • IF any other person beside the ANGLER touches

any part of the rod, reel or line (including double line), except as noted per IGFA

• Resting the rod in a rod holder• Shooting, harpooning, or lancing the fish• Power driven reels

Release

• Officially consider a release when one of the following occurs: • Mate is able to grab the leader• Swivel hits the rod tip• Connection (knot, splice, etc.) between the

leader and the mainline / double line passes through rod tip

• IGFA Recommends• “Circle hooks are encouraged when fishing with

live or dead natural bait”

• HMS: Atlantic Billfishes, Swordfish, Sharks, and Tunas• Must have HMS Permit to fish for above species

• “An Atlantic HMS tournament is any fishing competition in which participants must register, or otherwise enter, or in which a prize or award is offered for catching or landing HMS”

• “Anglers fishing from Atlantic HMS permitted vessels and participating in Atlantic billfish tournaments must use only non-offset circle hooks when deploying natural bait or natural bait/artificial lure combinations.

IGFA Rules ApplyRod & Reel -- One person -- One Fish

1. Captain’s Meeting 11 June 5:00pm: Mandatory one crew member; obtain tournament identifier; Committee Boat Ch 72 (Diddy Getum & SuperStar)

2. Fishing: Starts immediately after Captain’s Meeting to 7:00 pm 13 June (Sat) within 150 NM Destin “CB” Buoy.

3. Fish-- Weighed: Yellowfin(27”), Big Eye (27”) Black Fin Tuna; Dolphin; Wahoo & Swordfish(47”). “T”&R: Blue & White Marlin; Sailfish; Spearfish & Swordfish.

4. “T”&R: Report type/date/time/location Ch72. Photo /video “in water” to Weigh Master (Brad Gable) within 30 min of docking. Line factor per optional cash awards.

5. Top Lady Angler(s): single heaviest $300; single highest value “T”&R $200 (No line factor)

6. Weigh In: Shalimar Yacht Fuel Dock; Fri 5-7pm & Sat 4-7pm. Sat: Return contact Weigh Master Ch 72 (safety); in-sight of dock by 7:00 pm for fish weigh-in.

7. Rules: IGFA, State (fishing license) & Federal (HMS Permit, circle hooks for natural baits or natural bait – lure combinations).

8. Protest: NLT 30 min after final weigh-in/“T”&R validation. The committee (Joe Bianco, Ed Fundis, and Sam Smith) resolves NLT 1000am Sun.

9. Fees: $400 per boat (covers 4 people) . Boat Captain Required to Sign Registration Form “abide by all rules”.

10. Awards (based on 17 boats min): weighed fish 70/30% ($1000/350); “T”&R Trophy.

SUNDAY: AWARDS BANQUET: 4:00 – 8:00 pm
