Explain that no country stands on her own. Singapore is a member of the global community and hence establishes a cordial relationship with every country that has not posed a threat to her. So today we’ll be discussing a historical event that took place in Singapore in 1965. This event affected Singapore’s relationship with Indonesia in the past. [Divide class into 5 groups. Distribute one set of pictures & notes AND a butcher sheet to each group. Using Round Robin, get each member to discuss their answers. One note-taker will record responses on the butcher sheet clearly. Show next slide for them to look at the questions.] Two bombers were tried and found guilty of terror against civilians. They were hanged. And just recently in 2014, Indonesia named a navy warship after these two men. It is in this context that Singapore is unhappy with Indonesia’s decision to name the navy war ship Usman Harun. The quote is an official response shared in parliament. So we can see that the Minister is choosing his words carefully. This is done to maintain the relationship between Singapore and Indonesia
