The Department of Aging has started a new program to help meet the needs of seniors 55+ who can’t get out to shop for meals. They will deliver lunches to your home at no charge to you. Call them directly at 315.218.1987 to find out how this service can benefit you. You will provide them your name, address, date of birth. Make sure you tell them of any food allergy you may have.

Do you have a talent you would like to show off to our audience of Seniors. If you have a poem or story, a funny joke, skit, dance or whatever ya’ got! Let’s see it! We’ll

have a rehearsal or two before the actual showcase and work on putting a show together. Let’s have some fun!! Give us a call for more information.

Hi Friends, What have you been doing?....

I've been ‘cleaning out’ just like many of you

might be doing too!....diving into the projects that

always needed to be done but never found the time.

I've cleaned my hall closet… organizing,

eliminating coats, hats, gloves. Do you know I

have 27 pairs of mittens and gloves…and still

counting! Gee I hope I have enough!? :)))) At least

now that I’m cooped up, I won't be out shopping and

buying more!

So....you might already know.....I can be a bit of

a practical pack rat. But I have to say, all the

plastic zippered packaging from bedspeads,

blankets, sheets, and curtins that I've saved, has

certainly come in handy. At least all my hats,

gloves and mittens are organized now!

And Wegmans is not going to make any money

off me. I have over 20 totes! They've been

multiplying in my closet.... Really? Is there some

kind of birth control for totes?! This has got to

stop!

I have 10 sun visors too! I'm not a great golfer,

and don't play that much! Where will it end!

It seems, come Christmas time, I've always

gotten some type of coat or jacket as a gift. That’s

another group of clothes that I have way too much

of. I swear, I have one for every color I'm wearing

and temperature! I'm planning on spending a

little more time down South...so, I don't think I'll

need all of them, but..... I did put aside one scarf,

one ear warmer and one jacket (and that wasn't

even a winter jacket!) It's a start, but honestly,

where did they all come from?!!..... I’ve got to let go!

By now you can tell I have a lot of time on my

hands. It's the morning....I'm full of energy when

I wake, especially after my morning cup of coffee.

So on I'll go to my next conquest.....the

multiplying plastic containers!!

- The word Mah Jongg means “clattering sparrows” because the noise of the tiles when mixing them, resembles the sound birds make. - In Asia, Mah Jongg is played both as a casual game amongst family and friends and as a way to gamble. - In Hong Kong restaurants, they provide Mah Jongg tables for their patrons for use before or after lunch and dinner, and even at weddings! So next time you’re playing, think about the thousands of years this game has been played in so many different countries, and let’s start some traditions of our own!

LEGAL AID SOCIETY OF MID-NY Provides legal services to residents of Onondaga County age 60+. Services cover the following civil areas: Consumer Matters such as problems with collection/ debt; Living Wills, Power of Attorney Preparation, and Revocation, Simple Will & Testament, Health Care Proxies; Legal problems concerning Food Stamps, HEAP,

Social Security, SSI, Veterans Benefits; Medicaid/ Medicare disputes; Public Assistance and Utility issues. Legal Council is available throughout the year. Appointments last approximately ½ hour for a single person, and up to 1 hour for a couple. Their services are free but ‘voluntary contributions to the Legal Aid Society of Mid New York, Inc.’ are accepted and used to expand legal services.

Private counseling is available on the third Tuesday of each month, with appointments from 12:30 - 2:30 PM regarding: HEAP; Food Stamps; Lifeline Telephone Program; Veterans Benefits; Meals On Wheels; Housing Subsidies; Home Repairs and Weatherization; Caregivers; Tax Assistance; Pantries; and Social Day Programs. NUTRITION COUNSELING

AARP SMART DRIVER COURSE Anyone 50+ is eligible to take this one day course. Registrants will receive an insurance reduction averaging $40 per year for 3 years, and a point reduction of up to four points on the participant’s driver’s license (if you already have points).

LIBRARY Shelves of books are located in the front entrance of the Senior Center. Stop by and pick up a paperback book for your next read. If you have books you’ve read and would like to donate, drop them off at the Center. We take clean used paperbacks. No hardcover books.

KLASSY RED HATTER’S The ladies meet the 1st Tuesday of each month at 1:15 PM. It’s a nice group of ladies who enjoy each others company for their meeting, and have an outing out to lunch each month too!

The Onondagas are the keepers of the Central Fire and are the spiritual and political center of the Haudenosaune.
