If you give America a Constitution
By: Morgan Helton
If you give America a
Constitution she will probably
find a few mistakes…
And if she finds a few mistakes,
she will ask you for some
amendments.
For her first amendment she will
probably get excited and want to
have the freedom of religion, speech,
press, assembly, and petition.
All this Freedom will remind
her that she would also like the
right to bear arms.
And chances are that she will
not want to be forced to
quarter soldiers in her home
either.
When she thinks of home she
will probably realize that she
will need the right of search and
seizure to protect her
embarrassing sticker collection.
And looking at all her stickers will
remind her that no person should have to
testify against themselves in the court of
law. She will ask you to make that the 5th
amendment.
Chances are that she would also
like the right to a speedy trial by
jury in criminal cases…
And if she has trial by jury in
criminal cases she will probably want
to have it in civil cases as well
All this talk of court and law will
scare America and she will probably
want you to add the 8th amendment
against cruel and unusual
punishment.
And chances are she will want everyone to
know that even though all individual rights
aren't listed in the constitution they can still
not be violated.
This will probably make her think of the
states and how they too should have
rights.
You will tell her that
she now has made 10
amendments and she
will probably want
to see them.
When she sees them she will want
everyone to agree on it
So chances are she will get some people to sign it, people like William Few, Ben Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, and Charles Pinckney.
America will be so proud that
she will ask you to hang it up
so everyone can see…
She will look at it for a
long time, and she will
probably find a few
mistakes,
And if she finds a few mistakes,
Chances are she will probably ask
you for a few amendments…
