Facebook is many things to many people. Among the many things it is to me, it has proven to bea rich source of excellent material which lends itself to the type of creative journalism projectyou are currently perusing. My first contact with the Internet came in the course of doing my jobin the sales department of a local catalog company here in Burlington, Vermont, USA many longyears ago. The web was very new and raw back then and yet, even before the dot-com bubblehad begun to swell towards bursting, those of us with an eye and an ear for such things hadalready noted a peculiar characteristic of online human interactions - people are mouthy and rudeonline in ways most of them would never behave in person or even on the telephone.

I always thought it was hilarious back then. And I still do.

THE SCOOP

Okay. Heres the scoop. The cover of this document you are currently reading is

adorned with a Facebook meme depicting Jesus the Christ in the custody of theIsraeli Defense Force. The caption reads, ....if Jesus came to Israel today. Thismeme was posted by a Facebook friend with whom I have not had muchinteraction. Even so, by virtue of the inscrutable mathematical laws of MarkZuckerbergs site, this meme made it to my Facebook news feed. And so when Isaw it, I felt compelled, by virtue of the amathematical laws of my psyche, to makea comment on the thread appearing below the meme.

I said, He is coming. And He is not going to be walking around in sandals singingJohn Lennon songs when He gets here either.

What followed was what I can only term a spectacularly strange exchange with aman I do not know from Adam who lives I know not where on Gods green Earth. Iassume he is a mutual Facebook friend of the person who originally posted thememe where I wound up seeing it, but that is all I can pretend to know about thefellow beyond what he tells us in the passages that follow. Even after deciding toturn this thing into a hit & run piece and publish it online, I had yet to even clickthrough to his page and see who I was dealing with. Why? Because in all honesty,to me, it doesnt really matter. (And when I did attempt to do so, much later in theevening when I was putting the finishing polish on this thing, he had already

blocked me. Whatever we can say of his theology and manners, it appears hisinstincts are intact.)

So all I have for you is his name and this one bleary version of his profile picturewhich I was able to cull and preserve so as to present it here.

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Mark Gerrard....

like you unfairly maligning someone..and you are wrong about Joseph'slineage - The whole POINT is the irony of Jesus's parentage as an

And when they lost track of the Lord and went back to the city to find

Him, where was He? He was in the temple blowing the minds of the
