Red Raspberries 3 Types of Seedless Grapes If you have never really grown a lot of things in pots, give it a try. There are a couple of key things to growing in pot, s. Use good soil. Don't buy that black stuff in 20# or 40# bags. That doesn't even usually qualify as soil. Buy a good peat-based soil mix. And change the soil in the pots every year. Don't skimp on pot size. Tomatoes need a ',,'''to 16" pot minimum. A full-grown basil plant would need a 10"to 12" pot. You can plant many plants in one pot, such as with he:r;bs and annuals. Each individual plant may not get as big as they would if planted alone, but they will do fine. The biggest made by gardeners is watering and fettilizing. You are growing a lot of plant in a small space. They will need ample water and fertilizer to do well. Many containers will need watered at least once a day and possibly twice as they get bigger. Adequate fertilizer is a must. Liquid feeding when you of it is not sufficient. They need a constant supply of food to thrive. The type of container you use is up to you. Clay, plastic, fiberglass, wood or cement will all wo.r;k. The most important thing is that they have drainage holes in the bottom. Also, don't put pots in saucers. The water must be to drain or the plants may rot. Herbs wor;k well in pots. Put them in an accessible place so you will use them. Every vegetable that can be grown in this area, with the exception of pumpkins, can be grown in pots. Grow salad greens in window boxes, tomatoes and, neppers in pots and herbs in hanging baskets. Try anything that will work for you. The following items will help you achieve the best results when growing in containers. Osmocote Fertilizer - This is a slow-release food that will deliver constant fQrtilizing for 3-4 months. AppliE!d when you plant, it is the only food the plants need all season. Soil Moist - These granules are mixed in the soil. They absorb water so that it is available to the plants as the soil becomes dry. It can reduce your watering by half. Soil-less mixes - We carry Miracle-gro potting mix which is a good soil for containers. But our commercial potting mix that we use is a great soil and very ecqnomical. A 2.8 cuft,. bag is only $22.00. We sell lots of these during the planting season. Fairy or Miniature Gardening , Our customers have fallen in love with miniature gardening. I thought it was kind of silly at first, but this stuff is just so darn cute! You can make a garden as simple or elaborate as you like. They can be made in pots, plimters or terrariums.
