What If the Healing Doesn’t Come?
There is a popular song that raises the question “what if the healing doesn’t come and life falls apart?” I like the
song but I think that it misses the mark in one way. I like the fact that the song raises this important question and
then it encourages us to trust God no matter what is happening to us in life. But the song fails in that it raises this
important theological question, but it does not really answer it. What do we do in a real world “if the healing does-
n’t come and life falls apart?” We will circle back to the question and the answer in a moment.
Our need for healing means that something is wrong. We know about the need for cosmic healing where sin has
infested and invaded and affected creation in more ways than we sometimes realize. That healing will take place
when Jesus returns in the future. We also know about our need for healing on an individual level. We are all af-
fected at some time by the need to be healed emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. If you stop and
think about it, we are behind the eight ball from the very beginning. Babies go through the stress of birth, jaundice,
colic, teething, ear infections, and strep throat. Even at our best, we sometimes get sick and we all know how the
need to be healed so often increases as we get older. Our need for healing means that something is wrong. I would
venture to say that every single person who reads this article can call to mind someone they know who is in their
last season of life and there may not be anymore healing for them.
So, what happens if and when the healing does not come for us? I have some Good News for you if you are a
Christian. We have the promise that if we are a faithful Christian under the blood of Jesus Christ, we are going to
be healed. Here’s the deal. For faithful Christians healing takes place in one of two spheres – either on this side of
heaven or on the other side of heaven. We know that for every person, at some point in their earthly journey, there
is no more healing. Sin erodes what God has created and on this side of heaven, the battle between being well and
finally passing away is lost. But we must remember that God is always going to bring good out of what His faith-
ful people go through, even when that involves death. Just because the healing does not come here, does not mean
that it is not going to come! We are encouraged in Revelation 2 verse 10 to “be faithful, even to the point of death,
and I will give you the crown of life.” Healing is going to come! If you are reading this and you are going through
physical trials and suffering and pain – be assured and encouraged because healing is going to come! If you are
reading this and you are going through mental stress and strain and you are overwhelmed with the difficulties of
life – be assured and encouraged because healing is going to come! If you are emotionally distraught and it does
not seem like your broken heart can ever be mended – be assured and encouraged because healing is going to
come!
When life sometimes humbles you by its negative circumstances and it seems like there is no way out from the
trial you are in – be assured and encouraged by remembering that our heavenly Father is always going to bring
good out of what His faithful people go through, even when that involves death. If and when the question “what if
the healing doesn’t come and life falls apart” comes into your life – be assured and encouraged by the Lord Jesus
Christ. Hebrews 4:15 reminds us that “do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin.” Be assured and encour-
aged by remembering that the Lord Jesus is going to turn our pain into peace – our trials into times of victory – our
suffering into glory – and our difficulties into joy!
With Christ’s Love, Josh

ON PALM
SUNDAY, a 5-
year-old boy woke
up ill and stayed
home from church
with a sitter. When
his family re-
turned, they were
carrying palm
fronds. Johnny
asked what they
were for.
“People held
them over Jesus’
head as he walked
by,” his father
explained.
“Wouldn’t you
know it?” Johnny
fumed. “The one

THE CHRISTIAN CALLER MARCH 2013
Elder’s Corner - Benny Brown
Life Is Short By Ron Boatwright
This life is so short. Job says, “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle” (Job 7:6).
We cannot stop time or even slow it down. Job continues to say, “Man who is born of
woman is of few days and full of trouble. He comes forth like a flower and fades away;
he flees like a shadow and does not continue” (Job 14:1-2).
We must live our short life pleasing to God so we can go to Heaven when this life is
over. God’s word says, “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to
such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’: whereas you
do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that
appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord
wills, we shall live and do this or that’” (James 4 13-15). This life is so short. It is tem-
porary.
Many people put off becoming a Christian because they are too busy with their worldly
pursuits. But cars wreck, planes crash, people die everyday of strokes and heart attacks,
and without warning the vapor of life quickly disappears. “And as it is appointed for
men to die once, but after this the judgment’ (Hebrews 9:27). Everyday we live we are
one day closer to death and eternity. We are not promised tomorrow. Tomorrow is
only a hope.
People can hide their fear of dying and cover it up with the pursuit of “material suc-
cess”. “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own
soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26). Our soul
is priceless. Many people put off becoming a Christian, or those who become unfaith-
ful delay their repentance until they can get everything just right before they obey the
Lord. They seem to think they will live forever on this earth. In talking to people
about their soul, many respond by saying, “I’m not ready yet”. The problem is there is
not much time left to get ready. They will soon run out of time. It will be too late then.
We must get it right while we have time. There will be no second chances. One will
not accidentally go to Heaven.
In less than one hundred years from now we will all be dead. We will either be with
the many being tormented in Hell or with the few in the glory of Heaven (Matthew 7:13
-14). We make the choice in this life as to which place we will be. Let’s make the right
choice.

Helping Kids Rock As Much As You Help Them Praise By Doug Ranck
When I was young, I could easily tell the difference between Christian music and rock music. Christian music
was played mostly at church on organs and pianos, was led by one person up front (usually waving his hands as if
the congregation was a choir) with the people singing from hymnals. Rock music was heard on the radio or on
your record player. Into my teenage years a few Christian bands developed and began using guitars or drums and
an occasional keyboard. I remember looking for Christian records at a bookstore and choosing to buy one if I saw
somebody was actually playing drums on it! At a camp or coffeehouse people began singing more contemporary
Christian music played with guitars. “Amazing Grace” to the tune of “House of the Rising Sun” became our an-
them. Along came cassette and eight track tapes. The music industry had effectively spread beyond the radio, con-
cert hall, and the church. Personal listening of music entered the arena in the late ‘70’s when those big head-
phones were introduced. With those I could enter my own music world. They even invented round, cocoon-like
chairs with speakers for those who wanted the “cave” experience. By the mid ‘80’s, music could be heard on cas-
sette tapes played in a “Walk-Man” – and soon we had moved to CD’s, internet streaming music, and then the
tidal wave of iPods, iTunes, and other MP3 formats. Music had invaded every corner of life. People could easily
create their own mix and personal playlists and take music with them wherever they went. Walk around the busy
sidewalks of your downtowns, malls, and airports and there we see hundreds and thousands of people with ear
buds of all shapes and sizes. Most people live their lives with a soundtrack in their ears.
HOW DO WE CAPITALIZE ON THIS LOVE FOR MUSIC?
If we were to ask youth leaders, “How do you use music in your ministry?” most would respond, “We have a
great worship band.” While this is a powerful way to use music, it can no longer be the only way. In the early
‘90’s it was possible to use the strategy, “bring in a band and they will come.” We are now in a different day. The
use of music requires creativity, diversity, discernment, and spiritual wisdom. There is one myth we must ex-
plode: all youth connect equally with God through the leadership of a good worship band. (If the worship band is
not good, we are into a whole other discussion!) The truth is that our attraction and connection with music is sub-
jective. Everyone has an opinion on style and taste of music. Musicians and non-musicians alike are unified in the
fact they have an opinion! Where there are opinions, one
can expect a variety of needs concerning worship to and
engagement with God. Just as a good teacher under-
stands that there are diverse learning styles in one’s
teaching environment, we ought to recognize the differ-
ent ways youth may respond to music in the life of our
ministry. With this awareness what are some ways to
help youth engage in worship and spiritual growth
through the power of music? Here are a few sugges-
tions:
Ways for parents to connect with their kids
•Listening Party – In my high school days, a new record
album would often bring people together for a listening
party. In this day of downloads we can have new music
in seconds. What about scheduling an event on the day
new music, sacred or secular, is released? You could

Dear Partner in the
Great Commission,
Last week, the point
person at JoshuaPro-
ject.net was interact-
ing with several of
our workers (to
launch a section
about the Wall of
Unreached Peoples
on their website).
Afterward, he wrote
me this note:
“When you recruit
Team Expansion
staff is there some
kind of encourage-
ment quotient they
have to meet? Every
single person I have
had contact with in
Team Expansion
have been such en-
couraging folks.
They all peg the
encouragement me-
ter! You have a mar-
velous staff. Doug. I
think you ought to
rename the organiza-
tion to ‘Team En-
couragement.’ (end
of Dan’s note)
I second the impres-
sion. Team Expan-
sion personnel ARE
encouragers! That’s
one of the reasons
it’s so fun to work
for this team of peo-
ple - and I trust it’s
also one of the rea-
sons you support and
pray for the work of
your favorite Team
Expansion mission-
ary. And when you
do, you’re “passing
along” the magic of
encouragement. May
God bless you for
continuing the cycle!
And may He richly
bless you this month.
