1.0 Accessibility Statement IntroductionIET London: Savoy Place is the perfect place for events and is situated alongside the River Thames in the heart of London. Following its £30m refurbishment completed in 2016, the venue offers cutting-edge technology, improved capacity and new outside spaces in a location that’s easily accessible by rail, tube and river. It enables anyone, regardless of ability to participate fully in any event held with us.

Versatile spaces, state-of-the-art AV facilities and excellent catering make IET London: Savoy Place ideal for everything from conferences to one-to-one meetings.

In this pack you will find information on travel, accessibility and mobility features, hearing loops and catering services.

2.0 Mobility Features ■ A sesame lift integrated into the main entrance provides a step free access route into the building

■ There is a call bell at the main entrance to advise staff of your arrival should you require assistance

■ An additional wheelchair-accessible entrance is available on the east-side of the building via a mobile ramp

■ The reception desk can be adapted to an ideal height for all guests

■ The main access routes through the building and many meeting rooms are uncarpeted

■ All internal corridors are wide enough to allow unrestricted access throughout the building

■ Our two purpose-built lecture theatres include space for wheelchair users and a companion

■ Passenger lifts are large enough to accommodate a guest using a standard wheelchair plus a companion or carer

■ Passenger lifts have sufficient space to turn a wheelchair and all impediments have been removed

■ Control buttons within the lifts are at an accessible height

■ We have evacuation chairs and sledges onsite

■ There is an accessible lift in the Riverside Room on the third floor up to the Johnson Roof Terrace

■ All members of staff are trained to use the accessibility equipment safely

■ A lightweight portable ramp is available for access to non-permanent stages

■ New handrails have been fitted to all staircases

We have the following products and features available at IET London: Savoy Place

■ A small mobile induction loop for smaller meetings is also available. This can be pre-organised or via the Duty Manager/ Concierge on arrival

■ The Maxwell Library and the Riverside Room have conventional induction loops that people with hearing aids can tune in to. Guests will need to switch to the “T – position” on their hearing aids to tune in

■ Both lecture theatres feature an infrared system for use with equipment supplied by the venue. The equipment creates a personal loop for the user and is compatible with the T button on hearing aids. Please speak to the Duty Manager if required.

4.0 Visual ImpairmentsWe have the following features available at IET London: Savoy Place

■ Audible voice synthesisers are fitted in both passenger lifts to alert vision impaired visitors as to which floor they are on

■ Defined trimming has been added to most carpets to improve definition of stair edges

■ Assistance dogs are welcome; towels and water will be provided

■ Our staff are trained on how to make themselves known to blind or partially-sighted guests

■ Staff are also trained in guiding blind and partially-sighted people safely

■ Sufficient light in the Faraday Kitchen makes it easy to read menus

5.1 London Underground Stations

The nearest tube stations are; Embankment and Temple on the Central and District line and Charing Cross (exit 1) on the Bakerloo and Northern Line. Walking distance from all three of these tube stations is approximately 10 minutes. For further information on London Tubes visit the TFL website www.tfl.gov.uk

London’s mainline stations at Waterloo, Victoria and Charing Cross are 10 minutes away by Underground. For further information visit the National Rail website at www.nationalrail.co.uk.

5.2 River Boats

The Embankment Pier is the main western departure point for the MBNA Thames Clippers route RB1 commuter service. All commuter services go west (upriver) to London Eye Pier before turning and continuing east (downriver) to the North Greenwich Pier for The O2.

5.3 Taxis

Black Cabs can be easily picked up from the Strand and along the Embankment. Taxis can stop right outside the venue opposite the front door. Most licensed London Black Cabs are wheelchair accessible and feature a host of accessibility aids: for wheelchair users, access via the ramps allows comfortable boarding.

5.4 Bus stops

Buses 6 and 11 stop at Aldwych - a 3 minute walk from IET London: Savoy Place.

Buses 15 and 23 stop on the Strand (by Boots) - a 5 minute walk from IET London: Savoy Place.

Buses 5, 6, 9, 13, 139 and 176 stop at Charing Cross Station - a 10 minute walk from IET London: Savoy Place.

5.5 Cycling & Storage of Bikes

Santander Bikes are available at Embankment and Charing Cross stations. For more information please visit the TFL website https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/santander-cycles/find-a-docking-station

IET London: Savoy Place has cycle storage for folding bicycles only. There are 6 lockers available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Concierge will issue keys to be signed for on arrival and return on departure.

5.6 Travelling by Car

IET London: Savoy Place does not have any guest or member parking facilities. There are a number of parking bays around the building; they are all subject to availability. Parking restrictions apply, so please visit Westminster City Council’s website for more information https://www.westminster.gov.uk/parking-zones-and-prices.

6.0 Entrance and Reception The venue is equipped with a sesame lift at the main entrance. Upon arrival to the venue please press the bell button for assistance, this panel is located on the right hand side of the main entrance steps.

One of our concierge team will meet you from this point. Our passenger lift is large enough to accommodate one wheelchair user and a companion or member of staff.

6.1 Interior Lifts and Corridor Dimensions

The lifts are located on Lower Ground Floor, Ground Floor, First Floor, Second Floor and Third Floors.

The east and west lifts have a maximum capacity of 21 persons (maximum load 1600kg) with audio announcements. The door dimensions are 1450mm wide x 2250mm deep x 2500mm high.

Corridor dimensions throughout the venue on each floor are approximately 1.6m wide.

Handrails are positioned throughout the venue along the staircases to accommodate guests as they pass through the floors.

7.0 Accessible ToiletsThere are accessible toilets on the Lower Ground floor, Ground Floor, Second and Third Floors. There is an alarm cord fitted and this should be pulled in the event of an emergency. In this instance, the cord activates an alarm which sounds at the main reception.

The Duty Manager or First Aider is notified when the alarm is activated and will gain access to the toilet. This will be managed discreetly and the area will be vacated of other guests if required.

■ The wash basin height within each accessible toilet is 0.72m

■ Toilet height is 0.44m

■ Toilet flush is a touch panel above the toilet seat

■ Door width dimensions are 0.91cm

Grab-rails both horizontally and vertically are available to assist visitors. Kindly note the door opens towards you.

The toilets are available Monday- Friday 08:00-19:30. If you require further assistance, please speak to the concierge team.

8.0 Catering ServicesThe IET London: Savoy Place appointed caterers are Harbour & Jones. Our in-house Head Chef Anthony and his team are able to cater for a wide range of allergies and dietary requirements, long term medical conditions or specific requests.

Our menus indicate the key allergens such as gluten free and dairy free dishes. Further dietary requirements are included in the booking process and can be discussed pre-event with your Event Co-Ordinator. Should there be a request for specific foods without notice we will of course do our very best to accommodate all guests on the day, a member of our team may liaise with you directly to ascertain requirements.

External caterers are not permitted without prior authority from the Operations Manager. A request to use external caterers must be made at least 60 days prior to the event date. A compensation charge per head is made to the appointed caterer and will be applied. The compensation rate will be confirmed at time of booking.

External caterers will be required to provide the appropriate legislative documentation and insurance no less than 30 days prior to the event. The Operations Manager has the right to decline the proposed external caterer.

Within the Faraday Centre in the Faraday Kitchen on the second floor a designated table with priority for wheelchair users is

available. The Faraday Kitchen is a self-service outlet; please ask for assistance if you wish to be served at your table. Our team are happy to read out the menu if required.

9.0 Additional InformationAll IET Staff take part in regular refresher training that includes disability awareness training. We have set evacuation procedures to include accessibility as part of our fire risk-assessment.

■ A Guest PEEP (Personal Evacuation Evaluation Plan) can be designed ahead of your arrival or onsite. If you require assistance during an evacuation a team member (Duty Manager, Operations Manager or trained member of staff) will meet you and assist you with the evacuation either out of the building or to the refuge point(s). We have wheelchairs, evacuation chairs and sledges to assist

■ Clear signage is used throughout the premises using white letters on a black contrasting background

■ Strobe fire alarms for guests who have a hearing impairment are installed throughout the venue

■ Accessible toilets are physically searched in the event of an emergency evacuation

■ We welcome trained assistance dogs

■ Information sheets are available at reception for guests with a hearing impairment

■ If you have vision impairments or are blind, our team can read the fire evacuation procedures to you away from the desk

■ If you wish, the concierge team will programme a contact number to your mobile phone so you can call them should you require assistance whilst within the venue
