IELTS Competition Hello IELTS, Hello World Information for Candidates

What is it?The British Council in cooperation with the Foreign Language Centre Can Tho University is going to organisethe Hello IELTS, Hello World IELTS competition in Can Tho.

Who can take part in the competition?If you are taking, or have recently taken an IELTS preparation course or would like to challenge yourself withIELTS then you are welcome to join this competition. In addition, your English ability must be no lower thanIELTS band 4 Pre intermediate equivalent.

What does the competition involve?The format of the competition is as follows:

1. 1st

Stage: The scores of candidates taking the English Placement test between 26 Oct and 13 Nov2009 will be recorded by CTU-FLC.

2. British Council will select the 100 top scoring candidates. They will receive a small gift and letter ofacknowledgment.

3. 2nd

Stage: They will sit the IELTS pre test (Listening and Reading) on 22 Nov 2009. From thesecandidates, the top scoring 20 will be invited to take part in the Final contest (writing and speaking),organised in Can Tho.

4. 3rd

Stage: Included 2 parts:

a. Part 1: The final 20 candidates will be divided into 4 groups (5 candidates/group). In theWriting contest, they must submit their assignments (at least 500 words) to British Councilbetween 02 Jan to 10 Jan 2010 on the topic: Give reasons and examples from your ownknowledge or experiences to support the following statement IELTS, password to openthe world

b. Part 2: In the Speaking contest, candidates will be asked to give a prepared talk on a giventopic, an improvised talk and take part in an academic communications role-play (11 - 14minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A). Tentative date for the speaking contest is Sat,23 or Sun, 24 Jan 2010.

5. Prizes will be given to all the participants in the final contest.

What are the benefits to you?The competition provides you with valuable examination practice. It will give you an insight into what an IELTStest is like, and the types of questions that are asked. Participating in the competition will also give you practicein working under examination conditions.

Prize: 5 IELTS tests, 5 English courses at FLC CTU, 5 Dictionariesb. 2

ndPrize: 5 English courses at FLC CTU, 5 Longman Dictionaries

c. 3rd

Prize: 5 Dictionaries, 5 Books Step up to IELTSd. Consolation prize: 5 Books Step up to IELTS

How will you get the results?

Your results will be sent to your language school.

Do you have to pay?No. Candidates do not have to pay anything to take part in pretesting.

3. Vng 2: 100 th sinh ny s tip tc tham gia vng thi th IELTS (2 mn Nghe v c) vo ngy22/11/2009 ti Trung tm Ngoi ng Trngi hc Cn Th. Hi ng Anh s chn ra 20 bn c sim cao nht mi tham gia thi vng 3 (bao gm 2 mn Vit v Ni) sc t chc ti Cn th.

4. Vng 3: Bao gm 2 giai oia. Giai oi 1: Hi ng Anh s ngu nhin chia 20 th sinh c sim cao nht ca vng 2

thnh 4 nhm (5 th sinh/nhm). Bi thi vit, mi nhm s cng tho lun v vit 1 bi lun (tnht l 500 t) v ni trc tip cho Hi ng Anh trong khong thi gian t 02/01/2010 nngy 10/01/2010.
