What is it? – IEEEXtreme is a worldwide contest in
which teams of students compete over a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems
Who participates?– Teams of 2-3 students/graduate
students and their proctors
Why is it unique? – Worldwide, simultaneous, only event
IEEE SAC holds in this manner or any other society
– Top prize is a trip anywhere in the world to the IEEE event of the top team’s choice

What are we trying to accomplish?– Expand the scope of IEEE benefits to include something that immediately appeals to
more of IEEE’s technical fields of interest and have a global activity held independent of the student branches.
– Be innovative– Be Global– Be FUN

Started in 2006 as an MGA Student Activities Committee initiative (based on a successful Region 8 event)
1st event was December 2006 with 47 teams2nd event was March 2008 with 130 teams from 33 countries– 146 teams of 2-3 participants– 70 teams successfully completed at least one problem– 14 grads, 318 undergrads– 19 females, 353 males

• IEEEXtreme should also be used to drive new student membership.
• Volunteers are needed to help recruit new members, form teams and new student branches at schools/universities where IEEE has no current presence.
