On Nov 4, 2013 the IEEE SCV Graduates of the Last Decade held their Volunteer Information Evening at LinkedIn which brings in a number of organizations from the local San Francisco Bay Area to talk about their organizations. Each organization is given 5 minutes to present, and after the event they set up a booth in which the attendees can gather more information on, and volunteer with their organizations. These are the slides for IEEE SCV SIGHT.

What is SIGHT?

IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT) is an initiative that focuses on creating opportunities for members to devote time and talents to humanitarian work consistent with IEEE’s Constitution to “bring the benefits of technology to the entire world.”(from online brochure http://www.ieee.org/about/corporate/initiatives/sight_project_guidelines.pdf)

What accomplishments will this unit strive to meet in its

first year? (from petition to form group) Assembly of a team motivated to “…create opportunities for members to devote time and talents to humanitarian work consistent with the IEEE’s constitution ‘to bring the benefits of technology to the entire world’”; Identify and contact local organizations and groups that are already committed to harnessing and applying technology for humanitarian purposes;Organize activities of various types (presentations, discussions, site visits/tours, etc.) Support the organization and hosting of the 2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference;Collaborate with other SIGHTs around the world and IEEE Humanitarian Activities Chairs to identify real humanitarian challenges in the field that could be implemented by local Universities in the SCV Section.Investigate and prioritize projects and demonstrations of interest to members of the Santa Clara Valley SIGHT
