Where do I belong in IEEE? 9. Membership Grades A Student member must carry at least 50% of a normal full-timeacademic program as a registered undergraduate orgraduate student in a regular course of study in IEEE-designatedfields.Student Member The total cumulative period for a member to hold the Studentmember grade and/or the Graduate Student member grade islimited to eight years.GraduateStudent Member Associate member grade is designed for technical and non-technicalindividuals who do not meet the qualifications formember grade but who wish to benefit from membership andpartnership in IEEE.AssociateMember Grade 10. Membership Grades An individual who has received a three- to five-year university-Member Grade level or higher degree. The candidate shall have been in professional practice for at leastten years and shall have shown significant performance over aperiod of at least five of those years.SeniorMember Grade The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in theprofession and is conferred only by invitation of the Board ofDirectors upon a person with an extraordinary record ofaccomplishments in any of IEEEs designated fields of interest.Fellow MemberGrade 11. Membership Grades Other CategoriesThe designation Life Member is applicable only to a member who hasreached the age of 65 years and who has been a member of IEEE (or oneof its predecessor societies) for such a period that the sum of his/her ageand his/her years of membership equals or exceeds 100 years.Life MemberThe GOLD group is defined as post-student members who are within tenyears of receiving their first professional degree.YoungProfessionalsA Society Affiliate is a member of an IEEE Society.
