    EDF R&D CIMERGY Project (2004-2006)

WHAT :Define methodology and tools requirements in order to use IEC TC57 standards 61970, 61968.

WHY :Help to manage complexity, and reduce integration costs

HOW :Participate actively in the TC57 standardization effortDo pilot CIM projects for EDF Operational Divisions

Answer the question :Does CIM is a good opportunity for EDF operational divisions ?

    FIRST CIM APPROACH : « TOP-DOWN »

« from Information Model to Messages »

    Model Driven Integration approach

METHODOLOGY :Based on the UN-CEFACT Modelling Methodology(Core Components Technical Specification), CIM Model, and ISO 11179

« Rules to derive an XML Message from a UML model »

Uses cases completed with Distribution Division : Customer switching from ebIX

UN-CEFACT Methodology adopted by EDF and by French e-governement agency

Tools experimented : MDI Workbench (Xtensible Solutions)MEGA UML with a specific EDF add-inCIMTOOL (Langdale)

Strategic Objectives: take opportunity of the DMS & GIS system renewalto :

Ensure Better integration of the DMS system in the EDF application environnement (assets Mgt - planning studies, field operation maintenance, outage statistics Mgt, customers outages Mgt)

Limit manual maintenance efforts of DMS and various « connected » applications (error prone), thus on both data and graphic issuesSolve semantic inconsistancies,Solve granularity issues (due to te different level of network « views » – operation/ planning/asset),

    keep & increase applications « independence »

RETAINED SOLUTION : CIM IMPLEMENTATION (CDPSM)Dany 4 Paris is Pilot project for all EDF distribution Centres (30 covering

France) regarding GIS – DMS integration

    METHODOLOGY

  • EPCC 9th – June 2007

    CONCLUSION

Based on the 2 approaches we experimented, CIM provides an interesting integration scheme

Combining IEC CIM & UN-CEFACT standards seems to be valuable« CIM should become the Core Component model of the electrical industry »

CIM is a good opportunity for Operational Divisions to define their information model (CIM + EDF extensions)

EDF needed and still needs to succeed its operational projects based on CIM

    Harmonization issues are in-progress (CIM/UN-CEFACT, CIM-61850, IEC CIM/OAG …)
