1 Introduction

This document describes the use of SystemCORP’s Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) Capability Description (ICD) Designer tool. The “ICD Designer” tool is used to define and edit substation configuration descriptions for IEC 61850 through a graphical user interface to create an XML formatted file.

1.1 Usage of document

This document contains hyperlinks that allow for ease of use. A hyperlink will be in bold and blue and can be clicked to follow.

1.2 Scope

This document is divided into 2 major sections:

• Overview with General Description that includes a list of abbreviation using IEC 61850 in IED’s; and a

• User Guide that walks through adding, deleting, and editing each device and node objects in ICD Designer.

The International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) 61850 specification details are beyond the scope of this document. See the IEC 61850 specification document titles listed in the next section.

Throughout this document, ICD Designer screenshots show what an ICD Designer user sees. The four major parts of the ICD Designer screen are:

Tool Buttons – the six icons: New, Open, Save, Save As, Close File, and ?. For information on the specific use of each of these icons see: Section 3.1 General Commands – Tool Icons.

Object Settings Windowpane – Settings for the object selected in the Project Tree windowpane are configured in this windowpane.

Project Tree – Construction of the ICD project design is completed in this windowpane. Assemble the project design in this windowpane by using the mouse right-click menus to add, edit, and delete objects. For information on the how to construct and edit the Project Tree see: Section 3.2 Project Tree Construction.

ICD Designer Log – The project assemble date, time, and actions are shown in this windowpane.

▪ ICD File Design Overview

The structure for the information model is based on IEC61850-7-2.

Server (SVR) – Represents the external visible behaviour of a device. All other ACSI models are part of the server.

A server: a) communicates with a client (most service models in IEC 61850 provide

communication with client devices), and b) sends information to peer devices (e.g. for sampled values).

Logical-Device (LD) – contains the information produced and consumed by a group of domain-specific application functions. Functions are defined as LOGICAL-NODEs.

Logical Node (LN) – contains the information produced and consumed by a domain specific application function (e.g. overvoltage protection or circuit-breaker).

Data – provide means to specify typed information (e.g. position of a switch with quality information and timestamp contained in LOGICAL-NODEs). Data Sets are groupings of the data and data attributes.

Log and Report Control Blocks– describe the conditions for generating reports and logs based on parameters set by the client. Reports may be triggered by changes of process data values or by quality changes.

►Note: Additional details on the modelling and relations between IEC 61850-7-4, IEC 61850-7-3, and this part of IEC 61850 can be found in IEC 61850-7-1.

Every communication parameter under Address can be changed. The screenshot below uses the IP Address parameter as an example.

Parameter type can be editted using a drop down menu and parameter values can be typed in manually. ►Note: The configuration of the communications parameters must match the communication settings of the IED.

▪ Creating an IEC 61850 Server CID File

What is a server CID file? A server CID file contains the configuration of the local server IED as well as any remote server IEDs with which the server application will interact. What is required in a server CID file? A server CID file must contain the local server IED and a connected access point to be useful. It is possible for a CID file to contain remote IEDs in addition to the local server IED (this will be discussed further in later sections of this document). If a CID file contains remote server(s) then the local server must be listed first in the project tree. How to create a new server CID file. To create a server CID file, Press the New button, a new file will be created. As default, a server IED is created. After creating a new Server CID file, the following view is displayed.

The Connected AP configuration is located in a Sub-Network Node in the Communication section. The Connected AP configuration must have an Address with valid parameters set for IP, Subnet, Gateway and MAC Address. The Server IED node contains the Access point node, which must have an access point selected from those configured in the communications section. The access point node contains a server node, which includes the server's logical devices.

Where a logical node exists, a data set can be created. In order to create a data set, click a logical node to expand it then right click the DatasetGroup. Press Add Data Set.

Click the toggle to expand the Logical Node. Right click the DatasetGroup.

Click Add Data Set. The Add new data set dialogue box will appear, this allows for the selection of functional constraints and an option to name the dataset

Functional constraints, these define the behaviour of the data. This section shows which data types are able to be selected. FCDA list, This section shows which data types have been selected. Dataset naming option. ▪ Setting up Report Publishing

What is report publishing?

Report publishing lets a client interact with selected data attributes in the servers logical devices. Published reports can only be used by IEC 61850 clients. What is required for report publishing? To allow interaction with a server’s data attributes through report publishing, the required attributes must be selected for inclusion in the data set, upon creation of that data set. For information on creating data sets and how to select which attributes to include see Creating and Editing a Dataset. To add a report control block. Right click ReportControlGroup and select Add Report Control Block.

Right click ReportControlGroup. Click Add Report Control Block. A new ReportControlBlock will appear under the ReportControlGroup

The Object Settings Window Pane will now display configuration options for the newly created ReportControl block.

▪ Creating an IEC 61850 Client CID File

What is a client CID File? A Client CID file contains the configuration of the IEDs with which the client application will interact. What is required in a Client CID file? The first IED must be the Client IED. There can only be one Client IED. All sections of the Server IEDs that are to be used must be included.

Server GOOSE Publishing

What is Server GOOSE Publishing? Server GOOSE Publishing allows monitoring of a server's data attributes using the GOOSE protocol. GOOSE publications can be received by both IEC 61850 clients and other servers. What is required for GOOSE Publishing? For GOOSE publishing, the communication parameters have to be set up first and then linked to the ServerIED, which is acting as a publisher.

Select ConnectedAP to edit the parameters.

Select a unique Access Point Name (ConnectedAP) for the server which is publishing GOOSE. Communication parameters such as IP address, subnet, etc also have to be defined in the “Communication” section of the CID file.

Link the GOOSE publishing Server IED to the Access Point once a unique name has been given to it.

Select the Access Point (ConnectedAP) as physical access point for GOOSE publishing ServerIED. Now the access point and the GOOSE publishing server are linked together.

►Note:The ServerIED requires a unique name in the CID file.

▪ Server GOOSE Subscription

What is Server GOOSE Subscription? Server GOOSE Subscription allows monitoring of a remote server's data attributes using the GOOSE protocol. ▪ What is required for GOOSE Subscription?

To allow monitoring of the remote server's data attributes the remote server's IED must be included in the local server's CID file. For information on how to do this, see Section 3.2.4 Import a Remote Server’s IED This will include the servers connected access point data. If the remote server's IED is configured with GOOSE publishing you will be asked if you want to import GOOSE control blocks. This is used to create external references, see also Section 2.8 Using external GOOSE references with a remote server. Once the remote server's IED and access point information is in the local server's CID file, the remote server's published data attributes will be available to the local server application. When configuring a server with GOOSE subscription it is good engineering practice to create the server without GOOSE subscription first. During this step all standard server settings, logical devices and data objects need to be configured. Once this has been achieved the GOOSE subscriber part needs to be added. Once the remote server IED has been pasted, the following box will be displayed. This allows for the selection of data attributes to subscribe to.

2.2 Using external GOOSE references with a remote server

What are external references?

External references allow a local server data attribute to be updated automatically with the information received in a remote server's GOOSE publication. This allows the local server to act as a data concentrator.

What is required for external references? To enable external references a GOOSE subscription must first be configured. Once this is done, external references can be created. ▪ Manual configuration.

To configure an external reference, add an input to the inputs group and specify the remote source and local destination data attributes.

▪ Automatic configuration.

ICD Designer can assist you to set external references up quickly by automatically creating the inputs and populating the necessary fields. To use the GOOSE subscriber tool you will need a preconfigured Server CID file with GOOSE publishing and a Server CID file with the data attributes which are to be set from the publishing server's GOOSE messages. The Servers' IDE Names must be unique. Copy the remote server's IED into the local server's CID file. This will give you the import option shown below.

2.3 Logical Node Template Creator

What is the purpose of this new feature?

This feature enables the user to make a custom selection of logical nodes, according to the user’s needs.

▪ LN Template Creation.

If you wish to generate a new template, featuring a custom selection of logical nodes, please select Tools → Template Customiser in the menu bar of the main window of ICD Designer. This step can also be done right after starting ICD Designer.

This action will open the Select Base Template window in which you can select the template edition. Please be mindful to select a standard edition template in case you already imported custom templates before that step.

After selecting a valid standard template, clicking OK will open the Custom Template Tool window.

The Edition of the selected base template is displayed at the top left corner of the window. The left-hand side list, entitled Base Template, shows you all the logical nodes available for a custom selection. A multiple selection is possible by keeping the Ctrl or Shift key down. It is also possible to move single items to the right-hand side list, entitled Custom List, by doubling clicking on them. Alternatively, single and multiple selection can be moved from the Base Template List to the Custom List by clicking on the >> Button. The Custom List, located on the right-hand side of the window, shows you the logical nodes you chose to keep. A single item can be removed from that list and put back in the Base Template List by double-clicking on it. Alternatively, a single or multiple selection of logical nodes can be removed from the Custom List and put back to the Base Template List by clicking on the << Button. You must specify a name for your custom LN template in the text field located at the bottom left of the windowpane before generating and saving the template. Spaces are allowed in the middle of the name and the name is limited to 100 characters. Blank spaces at the beginning and at the end of the name will be automatically trimmed. Also, special characters other then _ and – are not permitted. Once you are satisfied with your selection, you can generate and save your custom LN template by clicking on the Generate button located at the bottom right of the windowpane.

Clicking on the Generate button opens a new windowpane where you can browse to the location where you wish to save your custom template file. The name of your template file can be changed but the file extension has to be .lnt. The naming conventions previously specified for the template name in the text field also apply to the template file name.

You have the option of directly importing the new custom template by clicking Yes on the pop-up window that appears after you clicked the Save Button in the previous window.

Clicking on the Template Selector option will open the Template Selector windowpane.

You simply need to click on the Import Button to import any custom LN template file if you have not imported your template yet.

3.1 General Commands – Tool Icons

3.2 Project Tree Construction

Constructing an Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) Capability Description (ICD) file must be done from top to bottom. Individual child data objects and attribute types must be within a parent structure to before editing.

▪ Basic Project Tree Structure

The Project Tree Windowpane shows the entire design tree.

Clicking on the and icons to expand or collapse the Project Tree.

Adding and deleting objects is accomplished by using a right-mouse click on various parts of the Project Tree to open a context dependent pop-up menu (the above figure shows two different examples).

When right clicking on a Logical Device, this box will be shown. A Logical Device can only contain Logical Nodes. Options to Delete or Copy the entire Logical Device including its Logical Nodes are available as well as options to Paste or Add Logical Nodes.

When right clicking a Logical Node this box will be shown. Options to Delete or Copy a Logical Node are available, as well as positioning options.

The right-mouse click is context dependent upon different parts of the Project Tree. Different popup menu and dialog boxes open depending upon the type of object added:

When a new logical device is added to a Server CID file, this dialogue box will be displayed. This allows various Logical Nodes and accompanying Data Objects to be selected for inclusion.

Some Logical Nodes and Data Objects are mandatory for the creation of any Logical Device and they will be preselected as shown.

▪ Copy/Paste Clipboard

By using the right-mouse button, a context specific pop-up menu will appear. This menu is used for adding, deleting, copying, or pasting objects. Copying Logical Devices (LD) or Logical Nodes (LN) automatically appends to an LD clipboard or an LN clipboard of objects copied. For example, copy and paste a Logical Node (LN) (The procedure is the same for copying and pasting logical devices):

Right click the required Logical node within its Logical Device.

Click Copy Logical Node.

Right click the Logical Device intended as the destination for the copied Logical Node.

Click Paste Logical Node. The clipboard window will appear (shown below).

Select the desired Logical Node from the list of Logical Nodes on the clipboard. Once the logical node is chosen, select paste. ►Note: To avoid duplicate instances, a message appears to prompt for the copied object to be renamed. Rename the object to be pasted by adding a prefix or change the instance number.

Importing a remote server's IED into a local server or client CID file allows the local application access to report

Right click the desired ServerIED in the remote CID file. Click Copy IED to copy.

Right click the SCL in the local CID file. Click Paste IED to bring up the internal clipboard selection screen.

Click the desired remote ServerIED from the clipboard list to highlight it. Click paste to add it to the local CID file.

Add a New Logical Node by clicking the New LN button.

Edit the class and description as required and click Update Logical Node. Add Data Objects to the Logical Node using the New DO button. Edit the Data Object details and click update DO. Unwanted Logical Nodes or Data Objects can be removed by selecting them in the list and clicking Delete LN or Delete DO. Existing Logical Nodes can be edited by selecting them in the list.

Data objects can be added by right clicking the logical node and selecting add DO.

Option to manually select a name for the new Data Object

Option to select the Data Type of the Data Object from the drop down menu. Option to choose which Data Attributes will be included in the Data Object

Option to create more than one instance of the Data Object. The Start value is the starting instance number. The Count is the number of instance to be created from the starting number onwards.

Object settings are shown within this windowpane. The Object Settings Windowpane is context dependent upon object selected in Project Tree.

The ReportControl block is selected in the Project Tree Windowpane. Therefore, the Object Settings Windowpane shows only the ReportControl block settings.

For creating multiple groups, check “Setting Control” to True

In this example, the “Active Group” to use is number “3” of the total number of “5” groups defined. Active Groups are defined by using “Add Value” as described in Section 3.9 Adding Data Attributes (DA).

▪ Creating and editing a data set

Where a logical node exists, a data set can be created. In order to create a data set, click a logical node to expand it then right click the DatasetGroup. Press Add Data Set.

The ‘Add new data set’ dialogue box will appear, this allows for the selection of functional constraints and an option to name the dataset

Functional constraints, these define the behaviour of the data.

This section shows which data attributes can be selected. Tick the box to select the Data Attribute for inclusion in the data set.

FCDA list, This list is populated with the Data Attributes selected on the previous window for clarification. Dataset naming option. Add dataset, confirms the selected options and creates the new dataset within the dataset group. ► Note: This same dialogue box will be displayed if a dataset is right clicked and “Edit Data Set” is selected.

3.3 Creating Report Control Blocks

Right click ReportControlGroup within the desired device’s Logical Node.

Click Add Report Control Block from the menu. A new ReportControl block will appear below the ReportControlGroup.

The Object Settings Window Pane will now display configuration options for the newly created ReportControl block.

Tick Buffered True or Unbuffered False Select a DataSet from the pull-down menu. Optionally give the ReportControl block a unique Name and Report ID. Tick the desired options.

3.4 Creating and configuring GSE Control Blocks (GSSE or GOOSE)

Right click GSEControlGroup within the desired device’s Logical Node.

Click Add GSE Control Block. A new GSEControl block will appear below the GSEControlGroup.

The Object Settings Window Pane will now display configuration options for the newly created GSEControl block.

Optionally give the GSEControl block a unique Application ID, Name, Config Revision, or Description.

Select a DataSet from pull-down menu.

Select the GSE Type from the dropdown menu (GOOSE or GSSE).

To define the GSE address information, add a GSE and configuration options will be available in the Object Settings Windowpane.

Right click the ConnectedAP’s GSEControl block on the Project Tree to show the menu.

Click on Add GSE to add a GSE. The address information can be edited in the GSE’s Object Settings Windowpane.

With the desired GSE selected. The Object Settings Windowpane will display and allow for the configuration of the GSE.

The Control Block Name must match the desired GSE Block that is to be addressed. The Logical Device Instance must match the desired Logical Device.

Editing P information for the GSE The appropriate address information can be added to the GSE using this process.

Right click Address under the GSE. Select Add P to add additional P objects.

Each P object can be configured while selected in the Object Settings Windowpane. The dropdown menu allows for the selection of the type of P object with an option to manually enter the value below this.

Right click the Logical Node’s Sample Value Control on the Project Tree to pop-up menu.

Click Add Sample Value Control. A Sample Value Control will appear below the SampleValueControlGroup.

The Sample Value Control object’s settings appear in the object settings windowpane.

Optionally give the Sample Value Control a unique name (e.g. MY_SAMPLE_VALUE) and a Sample Value ID.

. Select the Data Set from the pull-down menu.

Enter ADSU and optional Description.

Enter Sample Rate and enable other Sample Options.

3.7 Adding and configuring Data Attributes (DA)

Right click the desired Data Object.

. The right click menu will show a number of data attribute types, click the desired type to add. Each data object can only contain one attribute of each type. Each data attribute type will have different configuration options shown in the Object Settings Windowpane. Examples of these are shown below.

Tools are accessible through the tools menu.

▪ Quick Validate

Clicking Quick Validate will check the data is valid then create a temporary copy of the CID file output and compare it against the IEC 61850 schema.

Invalid data will be listed in the Log Panel with a button which will select the node with the error when clicked.

A valid file will show "The current project is valid." in the Log Panel.

If the project fails schema validation, the Validation Results window will be displayed for review. ▪ Program Options

Clicking Program Options will display the Program Options Window.

Default Template will select which template is loaded when ICD Designer 2 starts.

Data Template Prefix allows the DataTypeTemplates ID prefix to be set for data templates created by ICD Designer in the output file.

Selecting Custom for the Data Templates Prefix with the specified text set to: "SET_", will produce the above, in the IDs in the output file. Note each ID and type start with "SET_". This feature is used to prevent Data Type Template ID conflicts if the user is creating files, which may be used in combination with existing files.

▪ Template Selector

Clicking Template Selector will display the Template Selector Window. This allows the current template to be changed.

Using the drop-down menu, Click the desired template. Once the template is selected, click Load Selected Template to load. ▪ Manage Customised Logical Nodes

Clicking Manage Customised Logical Nodes displays the Customised Logical Node Manager for more information see: Logical Node Settings . ▪ Export DAID Template

Clicking Export DAID Template will show the Export DAID Template To CSV window. This is used to create a .csv file with data attribute information which allows editing of DAID parameters through third party software such as Microsoft Excel.

Select the nodes containing the required Data Attributes from the list by clicking the toggle box so a tick appears.

Select the desired DAID type from the drop down menu. Click Export to save a DAID CSV file This will bring up option to choose file save location, file name and file type.

The new .csv file can be opened and edited in a spreadsheet application like Excel. Data can be entered and edited. Saving the file as a .csv file will allow it to be imported back into ICD designer.

Data can be entered into these fields, the file can now be saved as .CSV and exported back to ICD designer.

►Note: Parameters in the file can be added in the columns provided. Incomplete rows will be ignored during the import process.

▪ Import DAID Template

Clicking Export DAID Template will show the Export DAID Template To CSV window. This is used to create a .csv file with data attribute information which allows editing of DAID parameters through third party software such as Microsoft Excel. Clicking Import DAID Template will bring up an Open window which can be used to search for and open a DAID template file that has been exported from ICD designer, edited and saved.

Clicking Import DAID Template will bring up this dialogue box. Use the Look in dropdown menu to search for the desired file.

Select the desired .csv file from the files available. Click Open to import the .csv file. A confirmation box will be shown. Click Yes to confirm importation of file.

The log panel will show the import results

The imported DAIDs will be shown in the tree. The edited fields are viewable in the Object Settings Windowpane when the imported DAID is selected.

▪ Export ICD File

Export to ICD file will create an ICD file, which is a copy of the current CID project without private elements. Select Export ICD from the tools menu.

▪ Copy/Paste Clipboard

By using the right-mouse button, a context specific pop-up menu will appear. This menu is used for adding, deleting, copying, or pasting objects. Copying Logical Devices (LD) or Logical Nodes (LN) automatically appends to an LD clipboard or an LN clipboard of objects copied. For example, copy and paste a Logical Node (LN) (The procedure is the same for copying and pasting logical devices):

Right click the required Logical node within its Logical Device.

Select Copy Logical Node.

Right click the Logical Device intended as the destination for the copied Logical Node.

Select Paste Logical Node. The clipboard window will appear (shown below).

Select the desired Logical Node from the list of Logical Nodes on the clipboard. Once the logical node is chosen, select paste. ►Note: To avoid duplicate instances, a message appears to prompt for the copied object to be renamed. Rename the object to be pasted by adding a prefix or change the instance number.

When starting the ICD designer, the following view is displayed:

- Gives option to open a ICD, SCD, CID, SSD, or XML file

- Saves the current file.

- Saves a CID formatted file under another file name.
