Overview Trigger: Maintenance history needs to be captured for a physical technical object. Business Process Procedure Overview This document describes how to create Equipment for use in QM functions. Equipment are master data to manage physical objects in QM and Customer Service. An Equipment master data object must be created here before it may be associated with a Functional Location object. Input – Required Fields Field Value/Comments Equipment If Equipment number is assigned by the system leave this blank, otherwise enter an equipment number Valid On Defaults to the system date if no entry is made Equipment category ‘M’ for Machines. Other categories may be created in configuration. If internally numbered leave blank and the system will supply a number when you save. If an external number range is available and an external number is required enter one. May have internal and external number ranges

Equip. Cat. Key for distinguishing individual technical objects according to their use.RSelect from the pull down list. Use M (machines) for QM equipment.

Will default from configuration but you may change the value if required.

ReferenceSection Header

EquipmentNumber by which a piece of equipment can be clearly identified.OEnter the equipment number of an existing equipment that you want to use as a reference for copying.Do not use if entering material number

MaterialAlphanumeric key uniquely identifying the material.OEnter the material number of an existing material that you want to use as a reference for copying.Do not use if entering equipment number

Press ENTER keyAlternately, click on the green check mark icon

(Note: On above table, in column R/O/C; R = Required, O = Optional, C = Conditional)

1.2.1 Match codes are available for lookup of reference equipment or material.

1.2.2 Fields will be copied from the reference equipment or material to save input time.

1.2.3 Press the enter key or the green check mark to continue to the next screen.

1.3.On screen Create Equipment: General Data, enter information in the fields as specified in the table below:

General dataSection Header

ClassName used to uniquely identify a class within a class typeOSelect a class from the pull down list. Use this field only if classification is being utilized.

The class must first be set up in Logistics>

Unit of measure for weightCEnter unit of measure for weight.Required if weight input. This field has no name.

Size/dimension.The size and dimensions of the objectOFree flow text

Inventory no.Inventory number under which the technical object is stored in Asset Accounting (AM)OEnter the inventory number.

Start-up dateTime at which the technical object came into operation.OEnter the date or select a date from the pull down calendar. Used to calculate mean time between failure

Reference dataSection Header

AcquisValue Value of equipment at the time of acquisition.OEnter the dollar value of the equipment.

Currency key for currency of acquisitionC Enter the currency key.Required if AcquisValue is input. This field has no name.

Acquistn. dateDate the equipment was acquiredOEnter the date or select a date from the pull down calendar.

ManufacturerdataSection Header

ManufacturerName of the manufacturer of the assetO Enter the manufacturer name.This field is currently for informational purposes only.

ManufCountryCountry where the equipment was manufactured.OEnter the manufacture country.

Model numberManufacturers model numberOEnter the model number.

Constr. yr/mthYear and month in which the technical object was constructed.OEnter the year and month the equipment was manufactured.

ManufPartNo.Manufacturers part number used to manage objects of the same category. O Enter the manufacturer part number.

ManufSerialNo.The serial number is the number that is assigned by the manufacturer for an individual technical object.O Enter the manufacturer serial number.

Select a the Location tab or press Enter.

RoomIn this field you can designate a specific room for the asset.O Enter a room designation as textThis field is used for informational purposes. Can be used as a sort criterion in reports such as an inventory list.

Plant sectionSub-division of maintenance plants into production areas.OEnter the plant section if desired

Work centerKey for identifying the work center. Work center responsible for the completion of the maintenance tasksOEnter a work center or select from the pull down list.

ABC indic.ABC indicator of a technical object. Ranking of importance of the master records of technical objects. OEnter a value A, B or C if desiredDerived from ABC analysis

Sort fieldThis field is for a companys internal use and is not checked by the SAP system.OCan enter a company specific sort term in this field for the technical object. You can also define a matchcode for this field.

Components of complex Assets

Cost centerOrganizational unit in controlling where costs are incurredO Enter the cost center, if applicable.Needed to settle the costs incurred in the QM order.

WBS elementIndividual structural element in a work breakdown structure (WBS) representing the hierarchical organization of a project. Describes either a concrete task or a partial one that can be further divided.O Enter the WBS Element, if applicable.

StandgOrderNumber of the standing order through which settlement of all the maintenance tasks will take place that do not have an individual order.OEnter the standing order number, if applicable.

SettlementOrderOrder on which the QM order should be settled.OIf QM orders for this equipment must be settled to another order, enter that order hereOrder settlement can involve the settling of orders to others. When this is the case a settlement order can be proposed from the technical object.

Areas of responsibilitySection Header

Planning plantPlant in which maintenance tasks are planned and prepared. Plant responsible for maintenance planning for this equipmentOEnter the planning plan.Defaults into orders referencing this equipment

Planner groupGroup of employees responsible for the planning and processing of maintenance tasks in a particular plant.OEnter the Planner groupDefaults into orders referencing this equipment

Main WorkctrWork center in overall charge when a maintenance task is done. OEnter the main work center.Defaults into orders referencing this equipment

Plant associated with main work centerCMust be entered if a Main work center is entered.This information will default from the work center master data if entered.

Catalog profileCombination of group codes from several catalogs that restricts the list of values for the information contained in the notification. Combination of code groups made available for quality reporting OEnter the catalog profile.Defaults into orders referencing this equipment

Use the information on this tab to place the equipment in a hierarchy with functional locations and other equipment.

1.6.1.1 Installation Location

To enter the installation location information select menu Structure ( Change InstallLoc..

or press the change install location icon.

1.6.1.2 Sub-Equipment

To enter sub-equipment information select menu Structure ( Sub-equipment.

1.6.1.3 Class Overview Button

Use to enter class type used to define parameters in the classification system.

1.6.1.4 Documents Button

Use to enter the equipment master link to documents in the document management system.

1.6.1.5 Measuring points/counters

Use to enter measuring points/counters for this equipment.

1.6.2 Partners and More Tab

Use the information on this tab to record partner information for this piece of equipment.
